Hi everyone,

I wanted to create an open discussion to share our views on how the movie franchise could improve.

The goal of the discussion is not complaint based but solution based. In the spirit of that, while I do have a ton to share, I will begin with just one to keep it brief.

Human consequence and suspension of disbelief: This is one of my biggest issues with the franchise. I don't believe its specifically about developing a connection between cybertronians.

Id like to see a connection more along the lines of Sari from animated or Ginrai from Masterforce. It might be silly, but it gave real meaning to the involvement of the specific people in the story.

Any other thoughts?

 

One suggestion....continued,fluid but logically connected continuity

 

1)Reboot and get a completely new creative team: one who is well-grounded in the source material, actually enjoys and loves it, and many of the pre-existing incarnations (G1, Beast Wars, TFP and the like);
2)Improve character development by having the TFs talk while in their alt-modes;
3)Get rid of all the racial and gender stereotypes, and toilet and sexual humor;
4)Have Female Writers not just for show but to actually write well-written Female characters, especially Female Autobots and Decepticons;
5)More of a focus on the TFs;
6)Give us some Decepticons who are actually a badass threat to the Autobots and not cannon fodder;
7)Give us clear and logical, common sense reasons and motivations behind WHY characters do what they do, and why they are the way they are instead of just slapping some quality on them (i.e., giving someone a foreign accent just because they like a certain language);
8)Rely less on dialogue to inform us of important things (since film is a visual medium) and use well-constructed visuals that tell us by showing;

10)Make sure that all the subplots and details tie together beforehand so that the writing doesn't end up having to force a logical resolution;

11)Stop this whole, "TFs are the reason behind XYZ human historical item or event" thing;

12)STOP this whole damsel in distress thing;
13)Have a badass team of Autobot and Decepticon special forces teams a' la, the DJD and Wreckers; (eapecially an all-Female one);
14)Lose the objectification angle of Female characters;
15)Go back to a title font design that looks like an updated version of the G1 and Beast Wars Font designs;
16)Give us Autobot and Decepticon medics who not only fight but actually show us their Cybertronian medical expertise;
17)Lose this whole mute Transformers character thing-unless there's a real compelling reason why;
18)Give the Autobots air support a' la Aerialbots or a similar set of characters;
19)Energon and Energon cubes;
20)Insecticons, Insectibots, and Beast Modes (later on),
and many others.

 

Holy shite...that's a damn good point. I never realized that they didn't talk.

 

The talking cars thing would improve the TFs as charatcers so much. Even if they were annoying/flat characters, at least they'd feel more like characters.

 

Thanks- we only saw that 2x actually, but it was too quick:
a)when Optimus did his "calling all Autobots speech" in AOE while in truck mode;
b)when the Decepticons were conversing (in caption form)in one of the earlier films.

 

I thought of those instances...but I knew they weren't even close to what you meant.

 

Instead of GM ads? Yeah, that'd be great.

 

And don't always make their alt modes these astronomically-expensive sport cars. . .I recall when there was a recent Trailbreaker/Trailcutter figure that came out, and he was a Black modified Toyota RAV4. I think he's cool because my Wife drives one, LOL!!!!

 

There was that moment in ROTF with Skids and Mudflap as the ice cream truck.

Well that's not every time. There's also Bumblebee talking in car mode several times, perhaps most notably when Bumblebee is inside KSI getting jealous of Stinger. I think there should more talking in alternate modes, but only in moderation.

Anyway, the thing is there is no universally agreed way to make the film franchise better. There are things I'd like to see more of, like more Decepticon interaction. I would have liked to see more crude stuff myself because I love goofy shit, and we take the brand way too seriously. My complaint about Devastator's balls is that they aren't seen enough on screen. He should have actually used them as weapons if they went to the trouble of creating them for the film.

Also, more important than making films for fans is making films for general audiences.

Finally, what the films really need is Jaegertron as a major protagonist. He can use his fists, guns (both firearms and biceps), and moobs to crush the sparks of femmebots and rid the universe of their estrogen-corrupted existence. Then there can be this big finale where he faces off against Matriarch Supreme.

 

Shorter movies.
Stop making ILM demo reel footage a priority.

 

put the Bumblebee movie on hold and make me an Optimus-centric movie instead lol
(speaking of Bee's movie, shouldn't they have found a director by now?)

 

-Reboot.
-Have a writer who grew up on Transformers. Better yet, a writer who is seasoned already from doing a long haul writing in a Transformers comic series.
-I know this is cliché but go with IDW or G1 styling.
-More about the drama involved in the war between the transformers and less about bimbos who can't tell fuel injection from a carburetor
-get a director who can show unequivocally that he is a HUGE fan. I mean pics of his or her childhood toys, comics, proof of past quotes and geeky references to the fandom.

 

They could be GM ads and make the characters more lifelike in the process. Everyone wins! Push product and tell a story!

Almost like how every other Transformers series ever works.

 

That's the thing... we are SUPPOSED to want to buy these vehicles. Surely I'm not the only one who watched the cartoon as a kid and wanted to have a Formula One racer or a Porsche, right? I'm sure kids now feel the same way about the Camaro, etc.

 

I sure as heck do NOT want a Transfan directing or writing jack squat in a Transformers film. Maybe a few designers for CGI and set pieces who are fans, or maybe some fans as actors or voice actors, but ONLY if they are actually talented and get their positions as a result of their credentials and not their love of the brand. Most of the fan ideas for stories I see are so creatively bankrupt it makes the worst narrative parts of the Bay films look genius in comparison in my honest opinion.

Truth is, the films need to cater to the many millions of audience members in the general public, not the thousands of people on Transformers message boards.

 

Then why the hell even do a Transformers movie? Why not just make another movie about anything else?
Man.. some shit is sacred. And ideas like that just destroy the sanctity of something awesome.
Sometimes I just shake my head. Why does everyone seem to want to take transformers and make it about something dumb?

Make Transformers great again. The millions of people you speak of will literally watch anything and think its awesome anyways.
It's people who will voice an opinion who count. Not the people who won't
