Every time the latest iteration of Transformers comes out, old-skoolers like me immediately run out and disparage it for not being as good as the last. As a big G1 fan, I can honestly say that the guys who did the translating and voice work for RID did a fantastic job. They took something very foreign, Japanese, and weird (and I say this as a die-hard anime fan) and reworked it into something extremely funny and entertaining. No, it's not as serious as TFBM, and since they didn't have control over storylines like they did with Beast Wars, the character development was dictated by decisions made in Japan. Nonetheless, the finished product looks good and is a blast to watch. The voice actor for Sky-Byte must have garnered the envy of all the other VAs for getting the best lines and funniest dialogue and emotional rampages. No, RID isn't self-possessed and serious. But it *is* entertaining and fun, and for a show about giant robots, I don't think that's such a bad thing.

Actually, RiD is more favorably looked on than most recent series. It is responsible for the resurgence of modern Transformers, at least up until the movie. When RiD first started showing up, our forum numbers doubled within days. It still holds a special place in my TF loving heart. Good times.

I liked some of it, and really disliked the rest. I found it very drawn out and quite dull but I can easily see why it re-ignited the fandom - Robots turning into cars plus a pretty impressive lead with Optimus Prime as a truck and not of course a monkey :D

Well, Optimus Prime was always a truck, even in BW/BM; Optimus Primal was a monkey.

RID was really bad, but awesomely so, and the toys were great. Omega Prime is still the biggest bitch to transform in my eyes. Not to mention they gave us a really awesome combiner, Railracer!

The star in RID will be Sky-Byte and shall always be Sky-Byte.

RiD really rekindled my love of transformers. I also point to the series as the one that made all the other lines possible.

I think the only 2 i got when the line was around were megatron and Xbrawn.

since I've gotten Prime and Magnus (they're not that hard to combine) Prowl and Wedge

(I love that buildboy mould more tan the others)

the show is ok for a dub, (got it all on dvd) not really any dull surprise "Duuh" staring moments and Skybyte is the coolest shark around.

Much better than Armada which followed it

RiD is the line that got me back into Transformers for the first time since 1988. I kept seeing Prowl at the toy store while I was getting Gundam model kits and eventually I decided to pick him up. It's all snowballed from there.

Last year I finally got RiD Prime and Magnus, the last two of the thirteen original molds that I still needed. Optimus is definitely one of the best Optimus Prime toys ever - I almost wish I had a second one so I could display one in super mode and have the other one as Omega Prime (who really isn't that hard to transform).

Ah, RID was responsible for bringing me back into Transformers. After watching that I joined TFans.com and later here. I have almost, if not all the RID toys and still wish and prey that one day Disney will release it from their Titanium Vaults.

RID is what I call my "G1", as it's what really got me into Transformers. I did watch Beast Wars, but it never really got much of my interest.

Ya gotta admit, it's a least a more creative way of infiltrating here than out-and-out touting Blackberry phones.

Yeah, pretty damn subtle. Copy and paste stuff related to the subject of the forum and hope people click on the sig link. Spambots are evolving. And we thought that machine AI would try to kill us. Instead, it'll try and sell us knockoff Viagra.

I love RiD. Neil Kaplan was fantastic as Prime, and I hope they let him reprise his role in the next inevitable show. They did an interview with him on the G1 Season Two, Part One DVD that Rhino released a while back and he said "At the end of the day, we all wanted to play SkyBite."

Peter Spellos was so funny as that character. As Kaplan put it, "A Shakesperian actor shoved into the second banana." It was fantastic. And I reeeeally hope they look back on RiD in a few years and take a few notes.

I was a kid when RiD aired, and I watched it alongside Digimon (Again, I was a kid) and loved it. Sky-Byte is probably my favorite Transformer ever.

I first saw pics of Car Robots God Magnus and said I had to have it. An updated Ultra Magnus who was a badass? I can dig it! Then I ended up buying the whole line. Awesome stuff.
