He already stated several years ago he would be down for doing it if it he could. For example from one of his interviews for bumblebee from the Hollywood reporter, he was asked if he’d do a sequel.

It's like Hollywood does this on purpose to make things people like look stupid, and think it's funny.

The Smokescreens don't even count cause neither were suppose to be Smokescreen. Prime Smokescreen was written as Hot Rod but they didn't have the trademark on the name, while in Armada Smokescreen was the placeholder name they borrowed from Alternators, but they couldn't get the trademark for the name they wanted in-time so they were forced to go with Smokescreen.

And yes this is not the first nor last time a design is changed, but this also isn't a brand new character. This would be like if at the start of S2 of Prime Knockout suddenly just swapped to his G1 body that had absolutely nothing in terms of design similarities with his S1 body and that was that.

Even fucking AOE Optimus has more in common with his 07/DOTM design than ROTB Wheeljack has with BBM Wheeljack by the fact they have the same basic head design cause I guess they failed to grasp even that basic-ass concept this time around.

A rational guess might be: Wheeljack was made to look like Bill Gates during his transition into the Albert Einstein Que. He just doesn't care what his robot mode looks like and changes it to humans he likes, just like Transformers change their alt mode after scanning? He eventually changes his name as well after watching Star Trek, lol.

Also, neither Smokescreen's are a fair comparison, because Prime Smokescreen still has elements of his past designs, and Armada Smokescreen was also called "Grapple" in Japan. A lot of the Armada characters had different names between english and japanese. Wheeljack was called "rampage". if he was called smokescreen in both languages, then yeah, maybe they'd have a point.

For me at least, it's because michael bay doesn't give a shit about continuity or just... consistency in telling stories. so much random, unexplained shit happened in the first 5 movies but you accept it/don't care because bay didn't care. he didn't give a shit about making a good story.

with bumblebee, we got everything that bay can't do. a good story, with actual characters who aren't stereotypes/dumb horny joke punchlines, etc. it was made by someone who actually cared about what they were doing, and at least for me, it gave me hope that all those inconsistencies that bay made wouldn't happen in these new movies. there'd be design consistency. we wouldn't have random retcons within the same movie (like bee's voice in tlk).

So seeing this make me worry that bay's gross fingers are going to ruin what is now a perfectly good pie.

 

*Sigh* For the sake of inserting some positivity into the situation and because I need to find some positives as furious and upset as I am at how they massacred my boy, the sad thing is aside from the horrendous head sculpt and fucking suspenders, it's actually a cool figure and I actually quite like his 1940s alien blaster. Hopefully the head design is drastically improved for both the final desing in the film and the studio series figure. We really, really need to get a good look at him from the front, if he has a "battle mode" that makes him look the way he should, we need to see that and we need to hear his voice in the next trailer so my fears can either be put to rest or confirmed. Maybe he'll end up being more steam punk than Steve Urkel but maybe that's a false hope...

Same, I actually like the alt mode because it's kind of uni-QUE... but there's no way I'm buying him or call him Wheeljack, my wallet say thanks to whoever in charge of the bot design.

 

I've got nothing positive to say, about this anymore, the earlier designs gave me some hope to a better live action future, but Primes mouth (doesn't need it), Primes hand cannon (last movie he had his ion blaster), swords (why not his axe), and the the travesty that is Wheeljack. I may not buy any movie stuff, definitely not seeing the movie in theatre. This is Bay's Transformers and he's getting a 20 year chokehold on the franchise. My favorite franchise. I'm bummed. The thing that cheers me up, is that Skyquake right now, regarding Transformers.
