There's nothing confusing about this design. He's a big ol' nerd in overalls. Combine that with what we know about Wheeljack broadly and odds seem pretty good he's going to be some kind of either mechanical or technical whiz.

The only thing that'd bug me is if he's the stereotypical Hollywood nerdlinger instead of something closer to RBA Medix where he's smart but socially awkward like any younger kid among a bunch of adults he admires.

 

I hope for the latter, I think taking a look at the voice actor for WJ should shape our idea of his personality in ROTB. His voice honestly feels a bit opposed to the design philosophy, though that is my opinion.

 

Ya know… When AoE Galvatron re-became TLK Megatron- most notably his head design- people questioned that change as well.

So why wouldn’t they question Wheeljack’s head design from Bumblee to RotB?

I dunno, they apparently need to be reminded that this is every Wheeljack from the last decade:

 

What surprised me is that people say "I see Wheeljack in this design" like... what do you see?

Even for the Tech whiz, WJ was more of cool scientist who blow up their lab 6 days a week, not the bumbling geeky type. I feel like name it Perceptor would be a better fit.

Heck, just name him Que and people wouldn't bat an eye, especially with how Que acts in the movie.

 

Just out of curiosity (after watching this thread go into a literal meltdown)....

Is this even confirmed to Wheeljack? I know the name was leaked a while ago but could it not be a placeholder name? Crosshairs was meant to be Slingshot in AOE, we even hear Hound in a set video use the name, but then it was revealed to be Crosshairs before the film dropped.

Not saying it isn't Wheeljack, it probably is, but it's possible the name could change like it did with Slingshot/Crosshairs

Yes it is confirmed. From leaks to toy listings, early screenings and to his voice actor already being hired and cast as "wheeljack".

 

A friend and I workshopped this together and I'm super proud of it:

Who then turned out to be Crosshairs, which was my point of the post

 

And we go forward 5 years...

The movie's been delayed a whole year and there is still no name change, its Wheeljack. Toys are still listed as wheeljack, VA still listed as wheeljack even after the TRAILER. its Wheeljack.

Crosshairs was not called Slingshot after the trailer for AOE dropped, that's for sure.

 

Yeah and this a design 6 years later...


He might be called Qué, but like Dino is meant to be Mirage (like in the DOTM video game) this guy is Wheeljack.

And on the topic of transformers who get new designs...here is Smokescreen...

Toys may have the listing, but Crosshairs figs had the slingshot codename before we saw in packaged figures, we have set to see Wheeljack in his packaging.

Again I'm not saying this guy is not called wheeljack, but aside from some toy listings, nowhere does it say this guy is called Wheeljack.

As far as I'm aware, When Crosshairs was thought to be Slingshot (like toy listings stated) we only knew the name changed when we saw package information. (Or a toy event, one of the 2)

 

And also not the first time anyone complained about that too
