Ngl I'm starting to like this loser Wheeljack. If only this was supposed to be a new character altogether.

 

Yeah it all kinda makes sense now. They may have planned to use his characterization and look but gave him a more recognizable name to audiences at large (since there's more Wheeljack in stores than there is Medix). And Medix was some what of an awkward goof in that show so if that carries over it'd also make sense.

As long as they kept it more friendly awkward and not creepy awkward like apparently is being suggested by those who know more about the film. Medix is a pretty good character in RB so seeing that carried forward to an Evergreen style would be kinda fun.

That's kinda been Bayverse's thing though. Taking familiar names and giving them completely new personalities. Think of it like going from G1 to BW where you've got Inferno the fire truck and Inferno the fire ant.

Two guys, same name, very different personalities.

 

It's a small comfort, but I'm glad to see most people are pushing back on the Steve Urkel robot head, and the "how dare you complain about the new thing!" crowd being in the minority. I think for ROTB we're stuck with this, but enough feedback could get him redesigned again into something more pleasing for the next movie (assuming he doesn't die).

 

You guys really hate seeing G1 in live action so much that you'd rather take a fugly robot with weird ass lips?

And the Bumblebee design wasn't a straight copy of G1. Those clear blue head fins were a new addition (in contrast to the solid G1 ears). And regardless of G1, in a vacuum, the BB movie design just looks better. It really doesn't matter how long he showed up for.

 

To be fair, Megs didn’t really change at all for the first three movies. Neither did Prime really. And even after he went all knight-y in the fourth movie Prime didn’t really change much at all for the fifth movie.

 

Anyone who unironically uses 'geewunner' in order to shut down discussion or just attempt to poison the well against other users is a good example of someone that probably should've been gatekept. Same as the people who come into a hobby and call the people already there 'nerds' or 'geeks'.

All of which I've seen people defend on TFW before. There's definitely a crowd that will accept nearly anything so long as it's "not geewun crap". Which, they're entitled to their opinion, but I think that's counter productive at best.
At least none of the ROTB characters are so ugly I can barely stand to look at them. Progress!

 

Yeah people tossing personal insults at the director and pushing for a campaign to get the head changed are annoying, but design wise this dude is 100% not Wheeljack in a movie filled with characters who look more or less like their classic counterparts. Calling folks Geewunners for pointing out the ludicrousness of it all is pretty damn disingenuous. I actually dig the design as an original character, but it’s just not Wheeljack in my eyes.

 

We could boycott the movie, but I've been doing that since 3 and they keep making them anyways!  

 

He looks like those old women who keep getting botox long after it stopped helping, ala Nancy Pelosi.

 

Just saying I wouldn't be complaining about Wheeljack if he looked like a live-action version of this...

 

Yeah, I just went and rewatched the opening scene of Bumblebee where WJ appears, and not only do the ears flash as they should when he says the one line he has in the film, but you can clearly see he does have a mouth that opens, but it's integrated into the G1 design on his face so it works.

 

the real Wheeljack has finally shown up.

 

But why? That's hard work from good people that's being wasted because some fans don't want a certain thing.

Megatron was killed basically every movie, there is no similar story justification for a sudden change in design for Wheeljack. I don’t think your approval of such story discrepancies is the “gotcha” you think it is.

 

Cry about it, fella. TF has been doing that since the year 2000.

 

Yeah, and they got paid for their work. The only thing being wasted is the money of the production studio, because they have to fix the thing they didn't do right the first time.

Things people work hard on getting thrown out happens all the time. If you can't understand that then never go into any form of software development.
