Eh. When folks had issues with Mirage being a Porche instead of Jazz they were told to suck it up despite Jazz being someone's favorite as well. Same energy applies here for Wheeljack. Suck it up and remember that every character is someone's favorite.

In general though, none of this shit really bugs me because it's a different continuity and should be treated as such. It's not like these versions of Wheeljack and Mirage takes place in G1 where it really would be sacrilege to have them look the way they do.

 

Can Hasbro and Hollywood PLEASE just make new characters instead of dropping names on characters they don\'t look anything like?   

 

For the most part, I don’t care about g1 accuracy; if a reinvention is better than the g1 design, I’m all for it. What I don’t understand is the fact that they are retconning aspects of the previous movie that is supposed to be in the same continuity.

 

Wheeljack... isn't as bad as I was expecting. He captures some of the correct characteristics at least. Time will tell.

They are unlicensed vehicles, so I can't allow myself to pick them up lol. Maybe the SS versions will be licensed.

 

Except it is the same continuity as Bumblebee (which is not connected to the first 5 movies continuity), and there is a very large visual disconnect between Wheeljack in Bumblebee and this Wheeljack

The Mirage thing is entirely why couldn't the character just have been Jazz. There's only ONE gimmick in the film that wouldn't work for Jazz instead of Mirage, which is shown in the trailers and that's the multiple holograms trick, but it would have been easy to write something else in.

Wheeljack is different. This isn't just a character who looks similar to somebody else who isn't in the film, this is a character not even remotely looking like themselves from the previous film. This is "Bella Lugosi died during the filming of Plan 9 from Outer Space so Ed Wood replaced him with his wife's chiropractor who looked nothing like Bella Lugosi" level.

 

Or at the very least, could they apply names onto designs that fit? If this "Wheeljack" was called "Ironhide", then okay. I'd still have a problem with it, don't get me wrong, but I could see the namesake's influence on this design.

...this is clearly not one of those cases, regardless of continuity.

 

Exactly. Also in Mirage's case he still manages to evoke his classic G1 namesake in general despite not being in BB prior to ROTB which just makes Wheeljack's changes here all the more frustrating. Especially when characters like Optimus and Arcee manages to carry over traits from their BB designs to ROTB in some fashion or another.

 

I mean, it's clear he's going to scan an earth mode at some point. The how's and why's we have no clue about why his head is so different from BB so I'd rather wait and find out than jump the gun.

But more to your point, most of the people taking issue with the head sculpt isn't due to continuity issues between BB and RISE but that it doesn't look like Wheeljack period. That's what I was addressing.

 

See, I don't even mind the big square glasses. In fact, I do think it's pretty funny. I just wish they would have paired it with the ear fins and mouth plate that he had on Cybertron. Or if he had to have a face, like Optimus, at least just the ears. As it is, he looks unbelievably generic and uninteresting

 

So, instead of big ears, we've got big eyes for Wheeljack :-D

Knightbird looks great. Really want to see those in action in the movie

Hes not really minor though as hes one of the headline characters. Sonic was all but finished and they still changed it.

 

I get why you recolored what you did, but also the use of the brown where it is is meant to give him work overalls. The arms I could do with a different color but that could be more because of alt mode.

And those animators had to crunch like mad to get it done then all got laid off afterwards. I'd rather Paramount not do that again. Also, as others said. RotB was already delayed once. They're not going to push it back again.

And, no. Wheeljack is not a headliner. Your headliners are Prime, Primal, and to a lesser extent Bee. Wheeljack was barely in the trailer beyond his alt mode (used to highlight Arcee) and a shot of his back in a wide angle getting the entire group.

Not to mention how many BW fans to this day still have to sit around while people collectively shit on the entire thing because of "nameslaps" and the whole idea of them turning in to animals in the first place.

 

Wheeljack would've been great were it not for the head. i love the glasses, but the lips bother me. Give him a wheeljack faceplate and I'm in.

At first I was impressed with nightbird, but then I saw something that really bothers me. Her crotch. WHy does it hang so low down? Seriously, look at it

 

Maybe the glasses unfold into the ear fins? But that's wishful thinking. It's baffling that they nailed WJ's design in the previous film only to radically change it.

 

Feet yes. Legs yes. Even has the blocky shin guards above the knees. Also headsulpt appears to have the "vents" on each side of his head with blue lighting effects. He also has his special ability of making holograms. So in style and abilities yes Mirage.

Wheeljack? No. Just no.
