The only problem I have with this is, well, what I guess can only be described as a 'skull cap'. I only just now realized there IS sculpted detail there that the poop-color brown hides under the light. If it was black or even gunmetal gray, that would absolutely make the transplanted G1 face with the goggles (which the angled top makes them look so much better) work here.

It just doesn't make sense who every single other Autobot in the film, including Mirage, at least make a reasonably decent attempt at looking reminicent of their original appearances (Bumblebee being an exception because, well, Paramount loves that stupid Camaro...), yet Wheeljack is just a complete and utter departure when he already had the Bumblebee design. It's obvious somebody forced this character to be the way he is and it's not going to work in the long run.

 

By that I mean it’s strange that out of all the major name characters,he is nameslapped to the extent that he is, as a nerd emoji gag character too, granted it’s it not nearly as bad as Skids or Mudflap, and is much better than Que, but it sticks out aesthetically from the rest of the line up. Now Battletrap, like Dropkick before him is also a nameslap, but it’s such an insignificant name that it’s not a big deal, Scourge is a truck like in RID and is mixed with Tarn, but Wheeljack is the sole outlier. Still a solid design regardless.

 

Hopefully, that means when they get around to giving us Armada Wheeljack he'll get his own mold instead of being a repaint of a mold we've gotten a bazillion of at this point.

I like them both! I know I'm in the minority but I'm not interested in the G1/ Bayverse hybrid characters, I like seeing new designs so Wheeljack is right up my alley.

The more I look at these images, the more I can't help but shake the feeling that "Wheeljack" is going to ruin the whole movie for me. Of course, with these live action "films"--their track record is so bad, there's a 50%+ chance he won't even be named audibly in the film, or even have more than 2-3 lines of dialogue, so who knows, maybe he'll get killed right away and be this film's Star... uh, "Blitzwing"...

 

These deluxe figures are obviously the generations age of extinction quality from 2014. Since this movie was delayed for a year they could have updated the head design since and couldn’t really change the figures that were planning to be released in 2022. Something like what ended up happening with Nitro Zeus head in TLK.

 

I was gonna get the autobots and terrorcons but I’m sorry, these look like shit. The only good looking figure has been battletrap. I’m out, still watching the movie cause it looks good.

Maybe I’ll pick a couple up when they’re on sale if I really like the movie

 

I would prefer cryptid albert Einstein to this thing! hopefully its set up for armada wheeljack.

 

I'm not the biggest fan of the Wheeljack head (very original take, I know!) but I like the look of these toys so far. It's weirdly reassuring to have a toyline full of competently engineered movie figures that aren't the pretty expensive SS versions, kind of like some of the Cyberverse Warriors compared to the Deluxes. Like, imperfect as they may be (looking at Nightbird), they sort of make these weird designs work at a simpler level, akin to the DotM line, without being 100% junk like most of AoE/TLK's offerings.

No way you're going to convince a company to delay a film that has already been delayed with millions of dollars worth of toys sitting in warehouses to be sold in order to fix one aspect of the design of one (1) minor character.

Wheeljack looks like shit. He’s so generic. Even Nightbird looks plain and uninteresting.

This is so disappointing. They had the perfect design for the BB movie and they just tossed it out. I just don’t get it.

 

If hasbro has had a say on the movie design I'd bet on that being part of the reason for that choice so they can easily do a turtle crossover.
