What an ugly design.

if they aren’t going to be accurate, the design should at least look cool.

Nightbird looks really good. Her design evokes the original G1 character while also doing its own thing. I dig the color combo - it’s very Cybertron Cannonball (and I’m also getting some G2 Nightracer vibes as well.)

Wheeljack is, for the most part, pretty good. I like the goggles (getting Digimon “leader kid” vibes) and the altmode looks great. The lips, however... could be better. Maybe I wouldn’t mind as much if they were smaller or he had a faceplate instead. (Hopefully the Studio Series figure tones them down a bit.) I’m not really bothered by how little he looks like BB Wheeljack since we’ve had other TF characters whose upgrades didn’t look much like their original forms.

 

These aren't bad imo yes wheeljacks looks goofy but if his character attributes stay with the tech/science guy then it fits perfectly. Who cares if he doesn't have his ear wings.. they'd be atrocious anyway and way outta place imo. But I do hope that when we see the actual SS line they have the real license vehicle modes from VW and Nissan.

Also these aren't even from Bay, yes there might be "some" ques or design choices from the older movies but it's more inline with the knight verse designs. Those who still feel bay has ANY say are still salty bout 07. Just saying.

 

Doesn't look like I can fit Nightbird into my CHUG. Damn. Was hoping to cheat and get an extra Earth femcon. Wheeljack I kind of like as a new character except for the really ugly head. Come to think of it, the bot looks like it wouldn't be out of place in a CHUG collection... except for the head. That thing really borks the toy up. Someone makes a new one then I'm in.

 

I still find it utterly baffling that they elected to make "MU" Slicer Armada Wheeljack's colorscheme applied to ER Wheeljack's mold. It'd be like applying Armada Sideswipe's deco to ER Sunstreaker.

 

Bummed about Wheeljack no longer having the head from the Bumblebee movie. And MORE bummed that the new head looks so liptacular. But I DO love the vehicle mode. It's the first ever Transformer bus! Nightbird looks good all around. Weird that HER head is more accurate to the source material than Wheeljack.

Any one of you toy experts know what this play-feature is meant to be? Or is it just showing off how her weapons are stored?

 

I was hoping that he was more bumblebee movie like and that this would lead to a "cybertronian van" g1 wheeljack

 

This actually makes me love the design. He's just going to be a Cybertronian Bubbles to me now. "That's one fuckin' nice petro-rabbit right there!"

 

I'm still shocked about how we've yet to get an armada Wheeljack in general. Especially with us now getting into Armada full force next year or beginning to anyway.

This movie is meant to take place after Bumblebee, the movie that had characters looking the most like their original G1 designs which in Optimus ,Bumblebee, and Arcee's case was still carried over to their new designs here so to have Wheeljack be the only one not to have that is very understandably shocking and nonsensical. Even if one isn't a fan of the BB designs or G1 at all it's not unreasonable to expect some form of consistanacy here.

 

Without the instructions it's hard to know if this is a fan mode or a feature. My first impression was at some point in the movie she'll deploy those during a chase scene to either hitch or attack someone who's chasing her.

Bee ditched his G1 design in favor of his Bay design in this movie, and even in the previous movie the only "G1" thing about it was the alt. Arcee was a space motorcycle in the last film and is now an Earth one here.

She's only similar in that she's pink. But of the three you named only Prime in this movie trends anywhere close to his G1 design.

 

It... doesn't.

Wheeljack was never the nerdy guy. Smart yes, scientist yes, but he will blow up his invention while drinking energon beer before doning those suspender and glasses.

 

As toys these look really cool. Might even pick up the VW van and just call it Donnie for my own display. But between the new designs on both bots and cons side, as well as the recent trailer this is giving me way more AOE vibes than Bumblebee. And to be fair that doesn't seem like a bad thing overall. Lots of people loved the Bay movies and AOE. I hope the new movie has lots of fans. Just after Bumblebee and the anouncement of this as a sort of sequel I got excited at the idea of finally seeing characters I recognize. I'm not against redesigns, but I think IDW and Transformers Prime did it best. Save for Arcee in Prime, most everyone was recognizable even if drastically changed. Starscream was a great example. The Bumblebee movie just did a really nice job overall at feeling like transformers to me in a way the other movies hadn't. It wasn't perfect but it had potential. Every design in that movie, save blitzwing, was very recognizable. And Bumblebee felt like bumblebee even with the amnesia gimmick. The combat was great (And tbf I do expect to see the same upgrade here so that will be a real treat) and I got a little excited at the soft reboot start over angle. getting to see a more modern approach to the autobots and decepticons war that still uses g1 as a template would be really really cool! I'm really not trying to crap on this movie before it even comes out or anyone who is excited. I'm sure it'll be a blast for many, and maybe I'm jumping to the wrong conclusions, trailers can be misleading and Bumblebee's battlemask is a completely different design from his head.

 

Wheeljack could fit decently into a regular Generations collection with a new head. The figure overall looks decent, but man that head is horrible for the character.

 

It looks to me like her arm claw splits in half and attaches to part of her legs in alt-mode for this strange bumper claw mode. I really got no clue exactly where or how the claws attach so I dunno if they can actually store inside the car other than in that bumper-claw mode but there's no way to know till someone who owns it tells us or makes a video review.

 

Honestly, considering that Que was technically considered a version of Wheeljack in the past, the head he has in ROTB is actually an improvement. I do understand why people aren't happy with it though, but I personally don't mind the design changes too much as long as the characterization/personality is generally intact

 

This is my plan as well.

 

I just don’t think making him look like the nerd emoji was necessarily what they had to do. Nightbird looks great.
