I'm gonna attempt the impossible and try to change the topic to Nightbird for just a brief moment -

How about that Nightbird? Not necessarily the toy, but, from what we can gather about what she probably looks like in the movie, how do y'all feel about her character design?

 

i rather like both of these . Wheeljacks alt mode looks great and the nerd glasses really suit him . While i miss the light up ears at least he hasnt got a 70s porn star look like in Cyberverse .

So anyways.

Wheeljack looks hilariously off, they should've made him a new character but given how difficult it is to find creativity in Hollywood's talent pool atm I can understand why such a decision was made and I sort of feel bad for picking on it. Nightbird would probably look better if she wasn't smeared with mud or something else mustardy brown in color.

 

Whoever pointed it out first, thank you. I missed the overalls on Wheeljack. He is just a big f**kin' techy dork. It's a neat take on the mechanic/builder and I hope his character matches it. As for the name, again, who cares. I currently have an "Inferno" on my shelf who turns in to a fire ant and several Megatrons that turn in to a tyrannosaurus or a dragon.

Maybe that's why I don't care? I came in to the fandom through BW and thus was already used to the idea that multiple different characters could share a name.

He is a new character though. Just like BW Inferno wasn't G1 Inferno and BW Megatron wasn't G1 Megatron.

Hell, just like Bay Megatron wasn't G1 Megatron. Or Earthspark Megatron isn't either of them.

Also, not sure why you're complaining about a lack of creativity when the clearest demonstration of that would've just been doing the G1 design over again.

 

This film has my least favorite aesthetic among all the live action stuff. We had a great thing started with Bumblebee, why go back to this?

Ok this makes more sense to me now. I’m very curious to see the difference with these toys in regards to screen accuracy and which ones are in which lines etc

 

The wheeljack looks scarily simplistic. I hope they make another camper based transformer.

 

I am fine with Wheeljack's vehicle mode and robot body but I am definitely disappointed by that head after the Bumblebee movie did it so right. I could even live with the glasses if the rest of the head had any resemblance to the character whatsoever.

Sure, just don't throw back the card to us and blame us for the movie failing because "the movie got too much hater and not enough viewer"

Optimus transforming into a Tesla and wielding a hockey stick could be interesting. I’d keep the red and blue and wouldn’t add in the used diaper, though.

Alright! Thanks for confirming that the franchise has long mixed it up with its characters and the idea that everything these days should be beholden to G1 is boring.

 

I really hope this is just a badly-designed toy and the actual character design doesn't look so half-assed. If Nightbird looks like this in the movie, that'll be yet another L for Rise of the Beasts.

 

I mean there is a difference between a character who is completely new yet reuses a name and different take to an already existing character.

I think if Studio Series Nightbird has less brown and less kibble I may like it.

 

Like the homage to the original face without actually being just a transplant of the original face but would have preferred more purples and blacks over the browns.

 

It's not even live action movies. It's TF in general.

Prowl was a police car, a lambo, a lion (and an owl in the same series), a motorcycle, etc. And each of those was a different character.

Look no further than the countless Megatron over the last 30 years.

Yeah I'm trying to remember if she's supposed to be a rusted out car and that's what they're going for here. I'm reminded of the color job on the Torchbearers that was likewise supposed to resemble rust.

Yeah I don't buy that. I come from the BW fandom and the same people who complained about nameslaps over there complained when the comic introduced two brand new characters.

It's a no-win scenario when you try to appease the fandom. So they took the option that lets them hold the trademark and get the name out in circulation. Which is fine.
