I don’t understand how Prime, Arcee and to a extent kinda Mirage can be G1 looking in robot mode but for WJ they said fuck it.

 

I don't think it needs to be drastic. Just change the face a little, maybe make the goggles a little cooler, and you get a serviceable (albeit inaccurate) head sculpt

I really like the looks of these figures but I wish Wheeljack at least had his head fins

While the mainline deluxe Airraizor looks vastly different to her SS counterpart which is supposedly more screen accurate, I think Wheeljack here is pretty much close to his design in the movie.

Both got the doorwings (they're smaller on the figure) and wheels on his hips. The back silhouette is pretty much very close to his design in the trailer. So don't expect a drastic change like Airraizor.

 

I have no stake in this so I won’t pretend that my opinion matters here. But that is definitely one of the reasons I stay away from the movies. They just don’t jive with my preferred aesthetics.

 

All you gotta do to lose confidence as look at what they decided should be called Wheeljack.

I don't get it either. And I can even understand them wanting to keep Bumblebee himself Bayverse looking since he is the most recognizable character from that franchise. Going from Bumblebee movie Wheeljack to Rise of the Beasts Wheeljack is jolting.

 

Because it's not just a matter of head. WJ now has a SUSPENDER on his design, effectively driving him into the "weak, babbling nerd" stereotype.

 

Honestly other than badly needing paint and a new head, I rather like the design of this guy.

i love the little vw van guy actually, i think i would actually be a huge fan if they weren't trying to actively gaslight me into thinking i havent seen the wheeljack of this universe in the prequel to this movie

Both these figures have some custom potential especially Wheeljack from the Mystery Machine to the A Team van and beyond.
