I think the design team probably wanted to wait, but upper management probably wanted them to get SS out ASAP as to capitalize on the collector interest that SS caters too.


But the ironic thing is, I’m more excited for the mainline releases then I am Studio Series. We haven’t had figures like that in what feels like years.

 

The last time we had mainline Deluxes was in 2017, during the TLK era.

 

That line was just a pre-cursor to Studio Series, though.


I’m talking about whate Classics/Universe use to be. Just a deluxe or voyager loosely based on a design that serves as a contemporary version of the character in a modern aesthetic, and not a slavish re-creation to a decades old cartoon model. Cheetor and Airazor give off that vibe. They are inspired by the movie, but are not accurate to either it or the BW cartoon. And Nightbird at least gives off that vibe of as classic(and I mean Movie and ROTF) movie figure.

 

Also just that the Deluxes of SS and mainline (even Voyager Prime and Rhinox) are gonna clash together and could take sales away from the other. Where as if all that was out was mainline, I feel like that would be getting more people to buy them.

As is yeah Scourge and Airazor are inaccurate but Scourge is somewhat close where as Airazor looks more like her control art than the final design.

Indeed good to have them back. And I get the feeling they will do the same thing they are doing here for the Cybertron animated film next year.

 

I noticed that too, I think SS Cheetor and Primal will be based on their control arts more than their CG model, while the ones from the mainline will be based on early movie concept art, does that
mean we will never get fully accurate toys ? Like VW Bee or Car Shatter ?

 

I think down the line we can just not anytime soon really. And tbf minus Airazor so far they are mostly accurate with some changes. They are somewhat closer than VW Bee, Helicopter Dropkick or Car Shatter

But thinking about it I think where gonna get the control art version of Prime and not the final design we have seen so far.

 

Oh, that means he might turn into his "armored truck" version ! I wouldn't say no to that, would be nice if ha has the mask-less face.

 

No that will be the mainline Voyager that turns into the BH Prime truck. The SS one would still be the truck we are getting in the film. Just it might look more like that than the final design.

All good, that’ll probably happen to other since minis Arcee, Battletrap and Scourge, everyone else main character wise is in both SS and mainline.

 

Please god let this be the case. The final design in the film SUCKS compared to the control art!

 

I think the final design is okay so far but agreed I hope it’s the case and it probably will be.

But I do think if it’s the final design it’s gonna look so much better as a toy than it (so far) does in the final.

 

Honestly I do really like the ROTB design, but splitting the difference between the two would probably have made it my favourite live action Optimus design full stop.

 

Wow that looks really good. Yeah I also like the grey/black top on his shoulder also. Helps to break up the red.

While I prefer the control art design, I don’t think the final design is the worst thing ever. And maybe it’ll look better as the cgi progresses.

 

If the toys are all based off concept art, then it's good we'll be getting a figure of that Optimus design.

 

The mainline toys are, the SS ones are 3d not final assets and concept art. And going by Airazor yeah the Buzzworthy SS toy is probably gonna be that.
