    The Bee movie *is* TF6.

    Even if it's not a sequel/prequel, it's still the 6th TF movie.

Hell, one of the reasons most franchises have abandoned numebred sequels is it makes it easier to reboot/retool/prequel/sidequel/spinoff.

And it also makes movies seem more accessible if they're not numbered. People see "Transformers 7" and think they've gotta watch the other six. Dropping the number means people just casually paying attention have less clue as to how many came before (which in some franchises helps because the continuity is whack anyway).

The positive I see here is we may finally get a proper MP JAZZ. Now that Porsche is on board.

I already stated what it means.

    But I’ll repeat it:
It means what one piece of media says has nothing to do with what another piece of media says.

Who gives a flying fuck if something was a typo? No audience is gonna sit and say : “ignore Devastator. Its Brawl. It’s a typo”

Who cares if Que was Wheeljack in a book? Nobody in the audience is gonna say “that’s not Que because it’s Wheeljack somewhere else”.

Who, in the audience, said “Whup- Megatron didn’t actually get beheaded because in the book he lived”?

    Doesn’t happen.

Weve had 2 Devastators back to back and the world didn’t explode.

From what we were told by Aaron Archer, some characters are "Written into the script with a name" from the get go, like say, Optimus, Megatron, The Fallen, Jetfire, etc.
Meanwhile some characters were a matter of the movie team creating a specific character, then asking Hasbro what the name should be/ what names could fit the character. It varies more or less and considering we had Blitzwing in the last movie and Dropkick and Shatter changed names multiple times in concept art, it seems that they still do it this way.

Transformers aren't meant to change, dammit. It's not like it's right there in the name or something.

You don’t have to wait I’ll do it right now, it’s bullshit Jazz is not the Porche. He better show up or at least get a mention, I’m tired of this revolving door of Autobots not named Optimus or Bee showing up.

Uh, you seem to have names confused. Hot Shot was the backup name for Armada Bumblebee. And they wouldn't have used Wheeljack because that actually is another Armada character (ironically the guy who was clearly designed to invoke the appearance of G1 Sideswipe).

Given that's literally what happened so they could reclaim the name Bumblebee? Yes.

It's more complicated with Jazz because they didn't actually nameslap him in the first film and given how things post-TLK are supposed to be closer to the source material, its weird that they're treating Jazz's alt. mode and Mirage like throwaway aspects in the same context we're getting Nightbird who supposedly is somewhat reminicent of her original design.

Jazz is by far one of the most popular Autobots. This isn't just on Capple, this is on Hasbro. They're desperate to try and keep milking the G1 fan money and doing a bunch of G1 stuff except replacing possibly the third most popular classic Autobot (not sure where he scales alongside Prowl, honestly) by nameslaping him with a different G1 character name? Seriously, Jazz was by far the most in-demand character for a Classics/Universe/Generations revamp for six years running and many people converted 2008 Botcon SG Jazz figures specifically for this purpose.

This thread is proof enough that this single action is going to piss off a LOT of people. ROTB needs to do well and it isn't exactly looking good when you shove a Porsche that would be a perfect Jazz and tell people 'nope it's a nameslap character!'.

Already pointed out by BigRed that they didn't necessarily claim this verbaitim, but at the same time when you're shoving in a colossal amount of things from the franchise source material and Beast Wars, the needle points more towards 'trying to be faithful' over 'original direction'.

    Except he's right, you know.

Because it’s a missed opportunity of a rare occurrence, getting the license to Porche and NOT having it be Jazz. A character who is famous for not only his distinct personality, but also BEING A GOD DAMN Porche

Oh, so it is mainly reusing a name that fits the character after all. I can see them doing the same for Scourge and Nightbird. Mirage is a non-issue compared to the Dark of the Moon version, all things considered.

I'm hoping mirage is just a code name for Jazz. What a missed opportunity to name an old school Porsche by the character who made it famous in the TF world.

I think you are dramatic. ROTB being a success or not has absolutely nothing to do with Mirage being a porsche or not, that is an absurd claim. All it needs to do is be a good movie, a Transformers fan isn't going to boycott a movie over Mirage's car mode and the wide general public doesn't even give a flying shit about who Jazz was, and that includes both the G1 and the 2007 one.

Besides, to Jazz fans Jazz isn't a silver porsche, to Jazz fans he is a free-spirited hip-hop loving robot with a visor and a race-car paint job. They're not going to go "Wtf this character with a different personality and design should've been Jazz because the car mode is from the same maker".

And you are wrong. There is zero indication that featuring Beast Wars means they want to be 100% faithful to the old material. As far as we know those characters are all being reimagined. We already know Rhinox is old and grumpy and likes to attack things with his horn, so that is already a sign he is not the gentle scientist from the original show.

Ok but imagine the debates if Ravage appears and is a dog not a cat. Pet debates would overwhelm all.

Its a small thing in of itself but could be seen as a red flag of a much bigger problem.

Generally, people didn't like the original bayverse because they felt it disrespected the source material (seriously, name ONE OTHER REVIVED 80s FRANCHISE that's gone as far from the source material as what's happened with Transformers). People liked Bumblebee because they felt it was a course correction in the right direction.

And then you have one of the most popular Autobots getting shafted and his alt. mode assigned to...a decidedly less popular G1 Autobot name for no apparent reason.

Offending the fanbase like this generally isn't a good look.

Unfortunately that much is true given Gary Chalk got shafted as Prime for somebody with more star power. Which reeks of meddling by Lorenzo di douchecanoe given it's known he didn't want Cullen in for Prime.
