I don't know about racism (though his mom's advice to laugh at jokes seemed a little unnecessary), but I did feel like the film did a better job of making Noah more sympathetic - he's obviously working-class, his family's struggling to make ends meet, his brother's suffering from sickle-cell, and he turns down Reek's offer (initially) to engage in shady activities in order to interview for a real job.

His character has real problems, whereas Sam clearly could mooch off his well-off, RV-driving parents and his clearly-connected girlfriend. Sam doesn't lack for anything in his life, but underneath, he realizes that he doesn't deserve what he has, and tries to compensate for his imposter syndrome by finding some way to feel important again, as he tells Frances McDormand's character. He was offensively rude to his partner's boss, and he clearly thought he was too good for nearly every job he applied for, despite having no real qualifications other than that his daddy bought him a Transformer. By contrast, Noah was a soldier in the U.S. Army, a comtech, and a professional. Not to mention, he tried to back out of the car theft at the last minute too.

It's not that I didn't enjoy DOTM or the first three Bay movies, but Sam as a character is utterly vapid and uncompelling. He's not a hero, he's a schmuck who just happens to be there, and it's fitting that he's utterly forgotten about in AOE and TLK, with his final appearance relegated to a shot of his wacky license picture with the strong hint that he's dead.

Noah is probably one of the stronger, if not strongest, leading men we've gotten in a live-action film; too bad the film itself is so utterly generic and unmemorable. It's not a bad film, per se, it's just offensively inessential. Plus, it had to carry the weight of the franchise on its back, prove that TF is still viable as a film franchise after TLK and BB failed to leave any pop culture impact, and by that measure, it did not succeed, for the reasons many have already mentioned.

I feel like you're underselling Sam a bit. You could easily say Noah was a guy who happened to be there, too. He tried to steal a car and it conveniently happened to be an alien robot. He had post-nut clarity once he got inside Mirage, and did nothing of note until the writers realized maybe it would be good for him to carry an alien hand gun. Given to him by Mirage instead of the actual tech guy, Wheeljack.

Noah's accomplished past did nothing to serve him in the movie until arguably his combat training in the army gave him an edge when he got the Iron Porsche suit.

Sam's just a geek but he was able to kill Megatron, by chance what he did worked, but he did it. Then he traveled across the globe to search for the only hope to bring back Optimus, and risking his life in doing so.
They're both guys that happened to be there but they helped save the earth.

Ha. Thank you for the visual. And now I'll never be able to look at Noah/Mirage in quite the same way again...

I mean Mirage made the joke and once Noah sat inside the car he made that face.

sam was a schmuck yea but people forget that dude saw optimus die and decided to go through above and beyond just to revive him. not to mention his quick thinking killed megatron and starscream. Sam was in worse shit than Noah and still didnt try screwing over the autobots by almost destroying whatever macguffin was needed at the time.

I always did find it a little annoying that the Bots had more brutal deaths. GMP_U2F2ZUdNMDE=.gif GMP_U2F2ZUdNMDE=.gif GMP_U2F2ZUdMMDE=.gif GMP_U2F2ZUdNMDE=.gif
Yet the characters, who you'd like to see die in brutal ways, since their existence is JUST to end up scrap, die like cartoon characters. GMP_U2F2ZUdNMDE=.gif GMP_U2F2ZUdMMDE=.gif
And the bot deaths amounted to nothing anyway so, ughhhh...

I'm honestly pretty annoyed we didn't get to see Battletrap's mangled face, as much as he is my favorite from the movie I really wanted to see the damage Primal did to him

Yeah, every time they had an opportunity to do something cool, they just didn't.
At least Scourge's death was cool. GMP_U2F2ZUdMMDE=.gif

What WASN'T cool was that they had Scourge forget how to fight so this could happen.

Yes true but my point is how unimpactful the Cons deaths were compared the Bots in ROTB.

A macguffin that Optimus himself ended up destroying. If he'd have let Noah destroy it when he had the chance, the entire final act of the movie wouldn't have happened. Granted, then Bumblebee would still be dead.

It's a good thing Primal told him he should save humans otherwise Prime wouldn't have had such a quick turnaround.

F###ing G.I Joe man. I knew it was coming, but I still can't believe it.

I said a while ago that with ROTB barely managing to pay for it's bills, they would have to be careful with whatever movie they decided to follow it up, since they may not be as lucky next time. I'm afraid that this is the exactly opposite of being careful.

Well, on the bright side... this may end up being a win-win scenario to us? Like, if the movie ends up being surprisingly good it will be a win for obvious reasons, but if it doesn't and ends up flopping, this might be the straw that finally breaks the camel's back and sends Lorenzo and CO to hang out with Bonnie Ross in the shadow realm.
