All I know is I’m kinda done with bitching about the head design, cause as much as a bitch what is it really gonna accomplish? They probably haven’t or won’t change it for the final design. Most I can hope is a battle mask.

I work as a body mechanic in a tutoring class. Our rule about safety is to wear safety protection such as gloves and goggles. The goggles we ha e our big tho not as big as what wheeljack has. What I'm getting at is his ideal status of a mechanic making new inventions, someone smart, as such many associate smartness with glasses.

 

These are giving me (maybe false) hope that Wheeljack's Studio Series figure will be properly licensed, as well as Optimus's this time. If only his truck mode in the movie was that bright of a red and blue.

Interesting that Energon Downshift is up there but not Armada Wheeljack. As for the glasses, you're the one calling them dorky, not the person who said they're cool with the head. Many people associate glasses with intelligence, and most scientists and inventors are expected to wear goggles and eye protection for safety. Whether or not you like the new design is up to you, but it doesn't make it a bad design. I personally like it when they change up a character's design to properly match their personality. Sure, I like and probably would have preferred a more traditional head, but I also prefer to be open-minded about changes and reserve my judgements until we actually see the character on screen.

 

Exactly. When I first saw him my immediate thought was those goggles, I had to use them in gcse technology class when I was younger.

I think a lot of people here really need to go outside, genuinely. This is far too much anger over a nerd stereotype.

 

The filmmakers must think we're really stupid if they think we can't figure out Wheeljack is smart and inventive without having dorky glasses plastered on his face.

I like it when characters aren't caricatures. Might as well give Optimus Prime a military general uniform so we all know he's the leader.

Ignoring the glasses, the real issue with the design is the fact it takes a large departure from his ionic elements that are present on almost all of his designs. Not to mention, he doesn't look anything like he did in the Bumblebee movie. ROTB is supposed to be a sequel.

Giving a scientist character glasses is hardly a caricature, and I wouldn't take it so personally that the filmmakers included them. Because, believe it or not, I don't think the intention was to insult you or the rest of the audience by somehow suggesting that we're stupid. It was simply a way of reflecting his character with his design. Should we hate Jazz's design because he has a visor, and thus the designers think we're stupid because they have to give him a visor to get across that he's cool? Also don't really get why you're calling the glasses dorky; I think that says more about what you think of people with glasses than what the filmmakers think of scientists.

Not to be rude, but you're talking like someone who hasn't seen a Transformers sequel before. Transformers are redesigned all the time, often times in the same universe. I mean look at Megatron throughout the Unicron Trilogy or even Megatron in the Beast Wars continuity alone. Even in the other films, characters get redesigned a lot. Look at Megatron and Optimus, for instance. Wheeljack wasn't named in the Bumblebee movie and had maybe ten seconds total of screen time, so it's not really like this is going to confuse the audience. It sounds to me like you just prefer the standard Wheeljack look and are miffed that he looks different. That's fair, but it doesn't make ROTB Wheeljack a bad design.

Its blurry, but better than most blurry pictures like the ones people were "spotting" characters in from product standees. Anyways, these models look cool and I kinda dig what we're seeing of Wheeljack here, especially if that is a mask on his face! The complaining about Wheeljack's face has quickly become as annoying as the Mirage's vehicle mode bitching so I'm over it and glad that some others are too, especially since most people complaining are parroting the same stuff over and over. Let's just wait and see what it'll look like in the movie and how he acts as a character, huh?

But Jazz having the visor is accurate to the source material, because the original toy has the visor. That wasn't an arbitrary decision by the designers of the movie version. You're literally making the complete opposite argument to what you seem to think you're saying.

 

I feel like If it was supposed to be goggles and not glasses, the toy would have sculpted them like goggles. They’re designed and sculpted more like big square glasses than goggles, so I doubt that’s what the effect was. Especially when they gave him suspenders.

 

For sure getting the 1:24th scale Prime.

Seems like there is a mask on his face, and I will wait for a look from the film but I wonder if he his “battlemask” is the googles look for welding/being a mechanic and in his normal time the glasses are flared out like his G1 fins.

 

I’m fine with change. What I’m not fond of is ugly changes. If you showed me the Autobot cast from Bumblebee then show me the cast from ROTB, without saying any of their names, I wouldn’t be able to guess who ROTB Wheeljack is, at least by going off the face.
