I remember seeing an article with a fucking groan-worthy title a while back. The title in question being “Transformers Might F**k I’m the Next Transformers Movie”. I don’t know who posted it and I’m not going to search it because that’s a trash clickbait title and they’re trash news, but the contents of it, covered way more reputably by more respectable sources, was an interview with producers, stating that it’s not outside the realm of possibility that romances between transformers may be explored in new movies. and MAAAAAAN they could fuck this up so easily. Like, I WANT them to do this right. I WANT to see Transformers in love and they don’t ever feel the need to over explain it or make some juvenile joke about “oh how do they fuck”. And I want to see them go all the way with it - as a queer man, I want to see the equivalent of Chromedome and Rewind in the movieverse. I want them to retcon Shatter and Dropkick into a Decepticon Murder Couple. I have held the idea for a long time that a romance is another layer of MUCH needed development you can give to these robot characters that, if done right, can make an audience care for these characters. But I’m also deeply worried because I know how easy this is for people to fuck up. They’ll over explain. They’ll make juvenile “how do they fuck” jokes. They’ll act like a romance between two sentient beings is a weird thing and feel like they have to justify it in some way. And I’m fucking terrified of that. Going back to Chromedome and Rewind - yes I haven’t finished the comics but you know what, they never acted like it was weird that they were married. They just had them appear, very clearly have a deeper relationship than just being friends, developed it, and went forward with it. And as someone who holds the belief that if transformers is to evolve and grow in terms of storytelling that they need to employ methods and influences from other sources, developing a romance of ANY kind is a big step forward. I don’t know. What do y’all think?
I think the concern was probably that Bay would take the most idiotic approach possible to a Transformer relationship. Full of childish innuendo and oil jiz. So probably not an issue now.
I hope they don’t have sex. I don’t mind and like the idea of a child transformer, but only if they didn’t came from sexual reproduction. I just hope the rescue bot children from RBA didn’t came from mating. Anyway they better do the robo romance right.
I really hope they use IDW as inspiration for any romances because every other attempt has failed. Please dont make arcee a love interest.
That relationship was a waste of time in Arcee’s history of relationships which never made sense at all including with Greenlight for this reboot
transformers reboot: in the year 1992, megatron must destroy an ancient cybertronian artifact that contains a sex tape between them and optimus that may lead to the end of the war
Two things: A) No. Please no. Bay already gave his only actual combiner of any importance balls. We don't need the full thing. PLEASE NO. I can handle hugging, or affectionate looks, or just a known interest between two bots. But actual sex is a NO. TRANSFORMERS ARE ROBOTS. THEY DO NOT NEED TO PROCREATE. Look to G1 for an effective way to expand the population (Vector Sigma and the like). Couples should be for the enjoyment of each other, not... porking. B) Slow down on the F-Bomb carpet-bombing, sir. Please.
Wew. Just a reminder that the term 'relationship' means a whole lot more than "this character dates THIS Character!", Sideswipe and Sunstreaker being brothers is a relationship, I'd love to see more of these kinds of things explored in films + media that isn't limited to the most shallow kind of relationship people tend to immediately jump to. There's so many kinds of relationships you can explore with these characters and everyone wants the most boring and basic ones of all, that arguably don't belong in this kind of setting to begin with. As long as it's not IDW cringe, then maybe it could work, but the moment you have mechs start locking lips and expect people to take it seriously, you're going way too far. OP seems really hung up on people naturally being curious why two robots that don't have genitalia nor biological sex nor a need to pass on their genes nor any concept of sexual attraction would 'love' each other for no purpose or utility besides hedonistic pleasure. All I'm saying is that if my toaster started making passes at my blender, I'd chuck it in the bin.
I think I said it in a similar thread recently, but I'm not the biggest fan of the idea of "robot romance". I say it all the time, but I'll never understand the appeal of having the Transformers do things that could (and probably should) be done with humans. Falling in love. Drinking at bars. Going to the shopping mall. If you want to tell a story about human nature, just use humans. I find it more interesting to contrast the Transformers against human culture, not to make the Transformers equivalent to humans in every way. If we have to get Transformer romance, I'd prefer it just be subtle. Like, an offhand reference to two Transformers being a couple, or maybe just two robots holding hands in the background. Or deal with the issue in an interesting way that contrasts Transformer romance against human romance. Maybe the Transformers have outlandish dating customs. Or maybe they have no concept of romance, and humans reprogram some of them to feel love. Something like that could be creative.
relationship is a lot of things. Friendship as well. They could explore that, what bond between bots do war create. For Cons and autobots. How do they cope with loss of brothers and sisters in arms. Near friends, rivals etc etc. They tried to explore it in Prime with arcee and airachnid. It just ended up weird since it never went into depth.
optimus planned to use it as revenge porn? But Frenzy stole it and hid it, then got frozen in the siberian tundras and found by the russians. Its now a race against time to find Sam Witwickowich's glasses that show the position of the tapes.
I’m late replying to this but in IDW they didn’t use her as the one girl bot all the boy bots have a crush on, like in a lot of previous media. She was her own character and not just the love interest. She did end up in a relationship by the end of the comics but it was to another fembot that has been established as her own character and didn’t exist only to be the love interest. What I’m saying is, write good characters that can exist outside of their relationship and sexuality, like people.
I had made a similar thread back when we were speculating what decepticons where in Bumblebee and I had this insane theory that a few people had taken too far, which had led to sex scenes in these films? IDK HOW THEY GOT THAT ASSUMPTION but its about how Barricade, who was actually dropkick, and shatter where like a bonnie and clyde duo and when Bumblebee killed Shatter Barricade swore revenge and that would start their so called rivalry The Lovers
Transformers should definitely not have sex. It’s not because they’re robots (unlike you, I don’t mind robosex), but that them reproducing like humans or other organics will be boring and unoriginal. Strangely I don’t mind child Cybertronians as long as they don’t came form organic/organic like reproduction. I say replace bars with fueling stations and malls with workshops. And maybe romance among Transformers is not really romance, it just looks that way to us.
