Basically the combined mode shown in the booklet is still bullshit, because there is no Kaen upper body, and the Shouki chest mode is mistransformed because giving the perception of a wider chest.

@animetal, the lower Shouki part is hidden in the proto image because the front chest is not pulled up, but there is in the combination. The article is interesting, thank you.

 

1. The newest image still used the old silhouette as a base
2. The torso looks bulky because it's slightly mistransformed.
3. Since it's the old prototype, that means Kaen is still a mystery with his entire upper body missing.
4. Ironically, the booklet advertised the image as the final reveal of Raiden combine mode.

 

I'm sure Raiden will clean up a bit, but I also feel like this could be the classic "it's just mistransformed!" cope we've seen with MPs for the past few years. If you're not sold on the individual bots, the combined mode isn't going to save this set for you.

I think that what wwe've seen until now is the "structural model". They already figured out how the various robot will combine, but they are yet defining the details.
This shed a new light about the answer that the representative gave to @Gamerlingual in a Toy show about Kaen and the final combination.
Of course, i think that in this specific time, Kaen is finished, but maybe not when the booklet was printed.

 

Maybe it’s Kaen that’s the issue here? As the smallest train, he has to not only become a functioning set of hips and waist, but also expand out into a robot that’s as tall as the others. Judging from the image we have so far, his robot mode does seem a little compromised as a result of all this.

Could be that they designed Kaen the tallest that he could possibly be, and then adjusted the heights of the other guys to match him?

 

Not really interested in this set as a combiner nor as a character. Nevertheless, the ankle weapons seems a little too much as compared to the original or the MS one. It\'s like they used any spare part and throw them in a blender and crowned with a barrel to make it look like anything that may shot beams. 

 

Im all in times three, but damn. If kaen doesn’t make a lower torso along as well as some hips I’m actually going to be disappointed with TT’s engineers for the first time in a very long time.

I'm gonna have to disagree half of Kaen is missing, though - I think it is there.

I'm reasonably sure the cab section of the train forms his torso and arms, and in those old show pics of the all grey prototype we see the cab section on his butt. I did notice the front of the train is missing. From the new bot mode pic I think that forms his backpack, similar to the G1 toy. Then perhaps it is partsforming and isn't part of combined mode? Certainly couldn't be seen at that show. So he must break open at the waist in order for the torso/cab to get back there.

However there seems to be quite a lot different with Kaen in the new pics from the booklet (boy I wish we had some good quality scans!). Compare the two...





First thing I notice is on the proto at the show, between his legs from the front you could see the side of the cab section (torso/arms). But in the new pics we see something totally different. Hanging down quite far like a giant turd is what looks to me like it could be the bottom of the front section of the train. I think I see the chevron shaped snow plough with wheels behind it...



So it seems the missing front of the train is present in this proto! Quite how it seems to occupy the same space as where the cab was seen at the show I'm not sure! Perhaps it is just the floor and sits infront of the cab, and the rest is transformed away somewhere? Maybe the cab is situated higher up in the small of Raiden's back.

Another big change is look at the hip pods. In the new booklet proto pics they are rotated up 90 degrees. They sit higher and stick out less like this, so look a bit better! Also somehow the left and right hip pod have changed places!

So I'm hoping the booklet proto is later/more correct, as it seems more complete and better configured. But gotta say the way Kaen is engineered seems a bit weak - I really wish he could have added some ab section and longer thighs instead of just huge hip and butt lumps! But I think it's time to accept this is what Raiden is gonna look like. I thought the same back at the show, and while it does seem to have changed a bit with those Kaen pieces moved around slightly, it's basically the same because the design is done and it's not changing significantly!

 

The sherlock investigation these threads have is amazing

 

I still hope you're wrong, only because i hope a better sidepods placement... Really, that Kaen seems made only by kibble :\

those side pods look like it’ll form his side hip skirts? not ideal, but good call on the 90 degree rotation, doesn’t look as blatantly stupid as the early protos
