I got out of Masterpiece based solely on price, but this thing is too gorgeous to pass up. I'm not even a Headmasters fan, never got into it, but this may be what does it for me!

    Thanks for the info, @DirkManus.

The price made me think about it for a bit, but I can not pass up trainbots. Trainbot combiners? Sorry, wallet. Prepare for a long-term beating.

saying he is cartoon accurate because the cartoon had a backpack is very reductive. A small amount of effort to clean up the back pack could have helped this figure without changing the accuracy but they didn't bother.
And there are clearly more issues then just that, it’s very gappy and the there are parts that just are forming cohesive sections

I think Shouki looks great. I'm not really seeing these short-comings that you're seeing there @nobody1898. The backpack looks fine and so does everything else on the figure. I see very very little that could be improved upon.

I dunno about that, my thoughts :
MMC size is out of question, all components are oversized, so...

For 5 components combiner, you should have an optimus prime sized bot that have to replace 2 ironhide sized bot, and for every limbs you have to squeeze arms and forearms from it, same for legs.
For Devastator, instead, you should squeeze complete forearms from the 2 arms components, and consider Long Houl with totally different proportions compared the cw one, so probably almost all legs will come from legs components.

There could be some partforming parts, maybe hands, feet, heads and some aestetics things (chest crest, and so on)...

I'm not very optimistic (anymore) about size :\

Is it at least fair to say that he has a very mixed reception? It's not like he has the prototype fan love that MP-01 or Alternator Smokescreen got. And back to my original point, this is a $200 figure that is meant to get fans to commit to 5 other figures. This figure might have got you but it should be getting nearly everybody and it isn't

Sure it's fair to say that he has had a mixed reaction. I think there's a vocal minority that dislikes it but there does appear to be lots of fans that do like it. But hey, you can't please everyone all the time. It is what it is.

Please do take into account that this figure is easily available for about $150 USD (my current order, including shipping, is sitting at $185-ish CAD). So your $200 is not accurate, in case that makes any difference to you.

I don't believe this to be accurate. His size is closer to MP Ironhide height from what I've been able to figure out.

Tfsource and bbts have it at $209 which is the closest we got to a retailer like Target or Toy R US (rip). Can you find it cheaper I guess but doesn't change the fact that it is $200 at retail

Well, US retail for a Japanese release figure doesn't really make that the MSRP. But hey, if you really want to get picky. He's actually a $265 figure (going by Canadian e-tailers). So why not go big and say he's $265. Not trying to be a jerk here just trying to show an example of how using alternate store prices to show what a figure costs isn't entirely accurate.

    edit:
And just to bring that point home:
Shouki is 170 pounds in at UK etailer Kapow so that works out to 233 USD
And the 265 CAD works out to 214 USD

But at Amazon Japan, it's msrp is 18000yen (not including Japanese 10% tax) or 158 USD but it's currently sitting at 14576 yen which works out to 128 USD.

note: non of the prices in this edit include shipping costs.

So yes, the price is higher at etailers around the world but no one HAS to pay those prices. They can get it right from the source country and pay a lot less.

Thinks he works out to 7.5-7.6 inches, that pretty much inbetween Hot Rod (7.3) and Ironhide(8.0)

Neither of those are any closer to a "retail" location than any of the other cheaper options. Especially not one of the largest online retailers in the world. You'll even get it faster from Amazon Japan.

The only "fact" it doesn't change is that you can pay more of you want.

but the reality for people in the west is that they wiil be paying $200+ for this figure, you can get it cheaper in japan then ship it here for whatever that cost but it is still a pricey figure regardless. And from the images I've seen it isn't worth the price of entry for a 6 bot team that. I see panel gaps in the promo pictures, that just doesn't sell the set for me.

Yes, I believe those heights are closer to accurate. So in the pic I had quoted, he should be taller than Hot Rod and not shorter.

And that's totally fair for you not to like it. Each individual person should make the decision for themselves. All I'm trying to get to is that providing inaccurate information to make a point does nothing to help others that are trying to make the decision for themselves.

edit: just as an aside here. I like to use the following as an example when using true, but inaccurate information, to make a point. That example is:
"100% of people who drink water, die! So that must mean you should never drink water... or you'll die!" lol

That was pretty much ideal my height for combiner limbs, Hot Rod-Ironhide. They don't necessarily dwarf the carbots but aren't exactly tiny in comparison to the seekers.

You're wrong about the price. People in the West can use Amazon Japan the same as Amazon US. I'm at $153.91 including all shipping and taxes.
