I don't know what wacky-ass self-prescribed definitions people are using to call these "CHUG".

Show-accurate robot scale and design, licensed alt-modes, and highly painted surfaces are all in the MP realm. The only thing that's off is the Combined mode. And hitting that accuracy, alongside the other two criteria, is a complete impossibility. Without heavy cheating, Combiners are a real "Robot accuracy; alt-mode accuracy; combined mode accuracy -- pick 2" scenario.

The original MP Seekers were not licensed, so MP-12 was the first licensed alt mode in the line.

Show me a CHUG that is in MP scale for bot mode, without typical CHUG hollowed out waffle board thighs and other cost saving shortcuts, with multiple point hand articulation, fully painted, painstakingly accurate licensed alt mode, die cast parts, then I'll believe that claim.

Okay, it's time to start the CHUG drinking game again. Any time anyone mentions CHUG, let's all take a shot! I'm already well on my way after reading this last page..

While there are certainly fans that devote their entire house to their toy display, real space is indeed in short supply.
Speaking for myself, I recently moved from a 215 square foot apartment to a 540 square feet one. This is considered quite large in Japan and is commonly used by families with 3+ members. The countryside has more space, but I imagine the majority of TT's target audience living in the bigger cities.

I could totally see this being a factor in the decision to make Raiden the size he is.

Loving this style of promotion over the usual grey speckled backdrop.

CHUG is an interesting acronym for a drinking game. CHUG, CHUG, CHUG.

Thanks for the info! I think we tend to often forget that Takara makes product for the Japanese market which often has different preferences that us in the West.

I’d have probably gone for this if it were a Haslab project for all 6 in a box set purely out of curiosity. I’m just glad I’m not into trains because this will be very expensive.

So have we figure that the G only stands for Gattai, or all the Gs in the promo depending on the release? It would be nice to see them to use this as a springboard for Japanese only characters. In theory just about every JPG1 character combined with something or itself.

Even though I wanted this to be CHUG sized (which is looks like it may be), I had to back out. The price/value for me is what killed it. Hopefully we get a proper CHUG Raiden someday, even if they’re generic trains.

It's best not to take English words in Japanese text as literal. They're there for marketing and to sound cool, and don't always have the same connotation or mean the same thing as in English.
Anyone who has lived in a mansion in Japan knows what I mean :p

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if a Haslab Generations Raiden happens at some point. After how well Star Saber did, Hasbro knows there is a demand for Japanese characters, we just need to prove to them that train mode characters will sell. Heck if that hypothetical Haslab did well, maybe Rail Racer could eventually get a retail release.

I expect Rail Racer has more popularity in the US than Raiden. Rail Racer was on Saturday morning TV and readily available at Target etc.

I like the idea of MP combiners…but the price is ultimately gonna keep me out. And if future MPGs continue to prioritize alt mode scale and realism, the combined modes are going to suffer. I get the logic behind the prioritization of the train modes for this one…but the combined mode is just way too compromised for me. Hopefully any Devy they come out with in this line prioritizes the combined mode.

Yeah, maybe don't prioritize combined-mode "accuracy" too much:

    devastatorscale.jpg

But I can guarantee you that a Devastator with a similar approach taken to the individual robots isn't going to end up as short as Raiden does. Again, Raiden's problem stems from trying to make a bunch of long and narrow alt-modes look bulky in combined form. Devastator's combination method is more defined, and the alt-modes are already bulky so there's not nearly the same amount of mass-shifting required. He'd end up not too dissimilar from Combiner Wars Devastator, just hopefully much more refined.

A smaller and more solid version of the CW Devy would be fine with me…with more detail and improved articulation for the individual bots. I wouldn’t be real interested in a full toon Devy…lol… And I’d agree that Devy ought to be easier to pull off than Raiden.
