Cool, thanks for the heads up. Placed the order just in case it goes down like you said.

There’s also this quote on there: Items eligible for the Pre-Order Price Guarantee.

No problem. Just want to help people out. This is an exciting release. Although yup, still pricey with discounts. But better than being a mall exclusive

The Raiden thread on the front page should link here instead of the sewer that’s the MPG announcement thread. This toy is going to be one of the best figures I’ve ever handled for sure.

Anyone know why it comes with two little seats? Is that something from the original?

This thing looks amazing. Oh to have the space to collect like I used to. But I can still ogle them online. :D  Obligatory comparison time!

    Back kibble:
    HM24_trainbots_transform.jpg
    Masterpiece-Shouki-01 (1).jpg

    Head chest and shoulders:
    HM14_shouki_at_gunpoint.jpg

    Masterpiece-Shouki-01 (2)2.jpg

    Head/face:
    Masterpiece-Shouki-06 (2)2.jpg

    Shoki (2)2.png

    Full shot at traditional angle:
    Masterpiece-Shouki-06 (1).jpg

    HM17_shouki_character_model_pose.jpg

    Shoki.png

Things to note where they went out of their way to match to the animation model:
    • The molding on the thighs
    • The markings on the lower front of the calves near the window
    • Chest detailing
    • Pelvis detailing
    • The head sculpt (they really nailed those weird proportions at the "cheeks" he has that make him look like he's wearing a helmet.)
Places where it diverges from the animation:
    • The color of the shoulder top, outer forearm, and inner leg kibble, due to transformation.
    • Additional detailing has been added to the chest and pelvis (horizontal lines) to homage the toy.
    • The feet/toes are slightly different to accommodate the real world alt mode accuracy.
    • The front shoulders always had a hint of angularity to them on the show, and here they have chosen to accentuate that with molding details (probably to homage the G1 toy's decals.) But the overall shape is still suggestive of the animation as well, which was always a tad ambiguous as to whether it was a smooth curve, or angular, depending on the scene and cell.
And now the licensed Shinkansen 0 alt mode comparisons.

First a fun model train of one, for another non real world model to compare it to:

    And some real world pics:
    Japanese-Shinkansen.jpg
    Shinkansen-Type-0.jpg

    This figure in alt mode:
    Masterpiece-Shouki-02.jpg

    Masterpiece-Shouki-08 (2).jpg

Insanely accurate. Leveraging the license to the hilt.

So essentially other than kibble and a couple of homages to the toy that don't disrupt his toon accuracy, which cumulatively to me are no more egregious than MP Ironhide's hips or MP Bee 2.0's back and feet, imho this thing is extraordinarily accurate to the animation. While also being evocative of the toy in several ways, and also managing to pull off a real world licensed train.

Like it. Dislike it. It's all good. But it is achieving what it's supposed to. The fact that it does so while also being a combiner, is incredible imo.

I would have preferred it if TT released all six of them as opposed to just one figure at a time.

Based on how it looks like it transforms from train to bot I would say Shouki could be 7-8 inches tall since the end of the train folds to become the feet and the front collapses onto the back.

Don't even hint at that! I'm happy that the front pagers are ending up in the MPG thread where they can state they think this will be a 12" combiner with limbs at $60/each. There are a whole lot of fans from all different corners who have some wild theories about what MPG could be. They also seem to not want to read the thread to see that the price/release date has already been listed several times and ask the same questions over and over. Some are very unhappy that this reveal is not what they wanted. Let's keep this a Masterpiece focused thread.

At its price, it might be best for one at a time for budgeting.

I have secured mine at AJP. I sure hope we get more announcements/releases on the other members as fast as the MP Seekers.

This. I would much rather drop $1000+ over the span of years rather than all at once.

I’m waiting to see the discount, wouldn’t surprise me if they use the same factory they use for Diaclone. Diaclone stuff tends to have better overall QC but a smaller run with less discount.

This looks good. I'd like to collect this set, but for the prices being discussed, I'd really like pics of the whole combiner. $200 once a year isn't bad, but that's a 6 year investment and $1,200. I'd like to see the end result of that investment.

Gotcha. Thanks. Just slightly late to the pricing confirmation.

It's really not an investment. It is a waste of money on a hobby that has no return % that's significant.

Buy it if you have disposable income. Do not buy it you don't.
