I just hope the loco mode is HO scale...
There's chonk and then there's Shouki. Strangely enough, I dig the G1 thicc boi aesthetic and his design doesn't seem to hinder articulation much either, which is a plus. I'm not overly familiar with the Trainbots at all but I do like shinkansen bullet trains, and enjoy riding them when I can (tickets can be pricy). I may pick this guy up for the novelty.
They did, after all, announce this project at a model train expo first, over the traditional toy shows.
But you can really see the difference in design focus between this toy, and the 3P version. The MP is as clean as possible in vehicle mode, with very minimal panel breaks. While the 3P version is more G1 toy-esque, with a stumpy vehicle mode, and focuses more on robot shape, while the train mode is cut up to all heck.
Yes. This looks stellar. Can’t wait to see the rest of the team.
I really hope the alt modes are HO scale...
This might be strange but something about that eggshell white on him gives me a real nostalgic feeling... like an old 80s spaceship toy or something.
I think the chunky, hammer-hands proportions of the animation design are spectacular. Same reason why I loved Animated, and most of the live-action Movie designs. The generic G1 box-man physique gets boring. Mixing it up a bit gives the designs more personality, and is exciting because of it.
Wouldn't say anyone is mocking. Just it seems a strange expectation that TT would add complexity to clean up a bot more than the animation model and thus not be accurate to the source. Can't think of a time they have ever done that in an MP, so why start now? For anyone wanting a more conventional heroic-proportioned cleaned up, but innaccurate, Shouki - there's the 3P.
Idk, I just see the same exact posts in threads for figures who very much needed to be cleaned up more so I’m fairly certain it’s mocking anyways.
Looks good, but given the prices of these things... not sure if I want. Also, really boggles the mind that they would choose the trainbots of all things for the first MP gestalts, who were basically non-entitites in the anime and barely did anything other than transport the headmasters. I know japanese are bonkers for trains but still feels weird.
Alt mode destroys zeta's totally. While the bot mode, it looks like zeta is responsible for TT's bot mode this time, chunky limbs and small head, also not sure about the head sculpt.
If both are the same height on bot mode and combiner mode, I'd go for TT then.
To me, the headsculpt looks better in zeta's.
Toy style insignias, this is not MP, this is something else.
Not all in one transformation: train tracks have to be removed. 1/10. Must do better.
Most MPs: Hey! What you say!?
Masterpiece is still Diaclone-centric, barring the odd exception. If you look at it from the perspective of MP being the line for updating all of the old Diaclone toys, starting with Raiden makes perfect sense.
Official MP Train bots? Why yes please. Keep 'em coming Takara-Tomy. I have a feeling each bot will range in price from $60 to $70 each, just like the first TT Seacons.
I generally tend to avoid MP scale combiners due to their size. But for whatever reason, I couldn't say no to this.
Add around $100 to that price tag, and then you'd be closer to the reality...
This seems like it will be smaller than 3rd party scale combiners, most likely CW devastator height as said awhile ago in an interview with one of the designers.
Well, the Trainbots were the first of the G1 combiners to ever be designed...
It was the first of the realistic vehicle combiners released in Diaclone.
