The irony is these will be no more CHUG, probably even less CHUG than the Hasui bots a lot of the same people swear are so great. This place is just weird

That's about where I am on it. MasterCHUG. He looks to have the old chonk from the Hasui era (which I personally like).

Masterpiece is ultimately whatever Takara wants it to be. When MP-01 released, it was simply for a big ol’ robot that could act as a collection centerpiece. Then came the Hasui Era, where Masterpiece had been streamlined into a melding of the best parts of the cartoon designs and toys. For the last couple years, Masterpiece has shifted to hyperaccurate, 3D representations of the cartoon models. The only overarching theme is that the Masterpiece line is meant to be a premium, collector-oriented line, and I think the Raiden bots will fit that bill easily.

Shouki definitely looks less "Cartoon Smooth" than other recent MPs, and seems to have more of that CHUG style panel lining detail, but it's not like he looks like a less premium product. Just a figure with a slightly different aesthetic. Hopefully he blurs the line well enough that MP collectors will be happy, but he won't look out of place as a big combiner in a CHUG collection.

Please tell me that in this context, "combiners" still implies the usual Scramble gestalt guys, Big Powered, and the UT Prime stuff and not just the former.

I would say that a hypothetical God Ginrai, Big Powered etc could also end up in this line.

I don't think a lot of of people are saying he looks like CHUG quality, but rather that he hews more closely to the modern CHUG aesthetic, as opposed to the super streamlined and smooth cartoon accurate MPs.

Quite a bit higher than the $100 people were predicting. Without any discount, that's over a thousand bucks for the full set.

180 USD? It's very expensive... 1080 USD for the set, if there are no increases in the meantime, which is not uncommon with Takara...

Are we sure that's 19800 yen? It's not using the "円" symbol.

Wow. The 3P option is looking like a great deal now. Maybe the 19800 Yen is for a 2 pack?
