I think this is going back to the argument as to why Starscream's chest center was made out of all translucent plastic and not both opaque and translucent plastics. I'm sure it's mostly due to maintaining the integrity of the area.

A lot of Autobot cars have a good portion of translucent plastic in their bodies. So Shouki having some shouldn't give us too much worry.

N-scale trains aren't the same as Transforming robots. That's not to say it would be impossible to make clear window inserts as you describe. I'm sure it IS possible. But I have serious doubts whenever anyone tries to make a cost analogy like this that the reality would be anything like as inexpensive as is assumed.

Thus far I've never doubled up. If I want to display a figure in a certain mode, I'll transform it. But for the first time now I'm thinking of doubling up. One of each for either robot or vehicle mode, like I do now, and then one of each to keep combined into Raiden. But it depends on the price. I'm currently expecting them to cost 150 USD each, which will be too expensive for double dipping for me.

I am fine with the hybrid approach. I am never a fan of designing something awkward just to say it's cartoon or toy accurate. A lot of odd cartoon choices are because the toy had limited 80's engineering and the toon was trying to represent the toy.

That's exactly what I've been worried about. I've already got myself excited for these guys, so I'm really hoping they turn out good.

No, it doesn't, mostly because it's entirely unfinished, but I also suspect that the MP qualities of these guys are going to be more vehicle mode based and be closer to something like Skids than say MP-44 Optimus.

Train mode looks very cool, but the legs look really bad. Hopefully the final version will look better.

Not usually clear though, as it had different properties than colored plastic.

im just as nervous about those large clear plastic sections as anyone else here , and MAN do i hope that they opt for solid sections with clear backing inserts, but at the very least it doesnt look like they are load bearing pieces, just train shell.

Yes but most MP's use clear plastic, just Takara's colour matching with paint.

Like how MP-52's entire faux cockpit is clear plastic, or how a huge chunk of Skids is clear plastic.

That's not the point. The person I quoted was suggesting that the clear plastic was not indicative of the final product, since test shots use random colors. But clear plastic and solid plastic are not interchangeable, even from a molding perspective since they have different properties.

Exactly. You can generally use any color on-hand for testing, but clear behaves different from opaque. You'd learn little and not really be able to use it to tweak for tolerances, if you used clear plastic for a part intended for opaque in the final product, and vice-versa.
