I never understood, yes the rest of the Team may have been undisposed of at that moment, when the Miko, Raf and Jack informed Ratchet that school has been over an hour ago. Like Miko insisted, why didn't Ratchet himself went to pick up the kids, or simply told the kids to go somewhere where they can't be seen and ground bridged them to base, but instead Ratchet simply avoided them and hang up on Jack. Having Ratchet either ground bridging them or picking them up, the kids wouldn't have been captured by the Decepticons and the Autobots would of have used the Omega Keys to activate the Omega Lock and restore Cybertron. It's not like Ratchet could of done anything to help Optimus from their base.

    Any thoughts?

In the excitement about getting to go home, he just forgot his responsibility to protect the kids.

Really, the whole team forgot. None of them told the kids what was going on, none of them considered the fact that the kids would be out in the open, and any of them could've taken a few seconds to leave Fowler, June, or the kids a message asking them to find another means of getting to the base.

It's case of tunnel vision. He saw the opportunity to finally return to Cybertron and he didn't want to lose sight of it thanks to distractions (which, unfortunately, he saw the kids as). Arguably it is part of Ratchet's character that he tends to focus on one thing at the expense of everything else.

The kids were already nuisances as far as Ratchet was concerned; and by the time he contacted them, admittedly he did need to keep the lines clear.

Megs seemed to have found the base before he left for Cybertron, however; hence why he makes Darkmount on the base's doorstep. I mean, Laserbeak could've easily found the base the night they caught Smokescreen; they were in driving distance of the base that night, and Smokescreen's presence further confirmed they were close. And there's not many mountains in the desert wasteland that have helicopter pads, are there?

It was a hopeless situation for the 'bots. Even if Ratchet simply bridged the kids into the base, Megs could've ordered Starscream to start the assault on the base while the Autobots were away, and either kill Ratchet and the kids or use them all as hostages.

You'd think the team and Fowler would've agreed on a secondary base or two with a groundbridge in the event they got discovered, but it's clear they grew complacent, and should've started hauling ass out of Jasper after Raf got relocated. Which just made the Nemesis' appearance at the base all the more painful.

If it wasn't for a children show, the Decepticons would have already broken into the house and kidnapped the targets from there.
Not to mention that they could have picked up any humans all over the planet to get the same result. That was just one of your "plot twists", meaningless, in general. They just wanted to make children say that they are ready to sacrifice themselves- meaningless, too.

As I said before, after Jack claimed to sacrifice his life, I wish I was there to ask him:"And you are ready to leave your mother absolutely alone"?
Responsibility for family and responsibility for the rest must be separated. Jack might be saving the world for his mother, simultaneously, but would his mother want to overlive her only son.

So even if Ratchet did bridged them to base, they wouldn't of been safe anyways?

Nope. Like I said, they had already found the base by the time Megs went to Cybertron.

As opposed to what, dying with the rest of her species when Megatron attacked Earth? Or are you saying that only orphans and loners should be prepared to sacifice their lives for the greater good?

And while the Cons COULD have rounded up any three humans, Raf, Jack, and Miko held special significance being the ones closest to the Autobots. What would have been meaningless would have been grabbing any three humans rather than targeting them.

Asher Tye, and then we might say that June is young and would be able to replace Jack with a new born child conceived from another man? And the second: Miko doesn't sacrifice her self for enyone, but herself. She is just too ******ed to care about anything else.
You did see I put "simultaneously" in my previous message that must have prevented your "they would die all the same" thing.

Wheeljack30, if it wasn't about Ratchet didn't bother about the children, then it would be any other different exuses for bringing them there, if the writters wanted them to. My point is: the question about this case is not a topic of discussion at all. For me, I mean.

The point is that their "sacrifice" costed nothing. Their life cost nothing. Then why bother, once Ratchet estimated the childrens' lifes precisely.

This is what I like about the Decepticons. They have their own little minds instead of "we must sacrifice one to save two". They don't travel across the planet only to find something for what they would find it epic to die.
In dire search for sacrificing riding sacrificing, dying for another ones to sacrifice themselves another day to let a few more die for someone else...They have already lost any reason for keeping them alive. The death from sacrificing has become the main point for some people to live for. And they waste your people in their war, too.
I do prefer good endings. Where all suicidals are dead, as since they want to, and there we can all live in peace. We, who don't want to cease existence.
As what I liked in Jack: he didn't try to get an excuse for him walking over the surface of our planet. He just walked it.

If you do want to die, then I don't bother to make you live more than you wish.
As for your question: you do realise that I would ask Jack only to entertain myself? And all my message is more as a joke and fun.

Wow it took the Cons 2 seasons to find the Bots base? And how did Soundwave managed to locate their base? While Starscream couldn't while he was near the same area when he revived Skyquake.

The Autobots did a good job of hiding their base, but then, in The Human Factor, the Nemesis detected Raf's intervention from his house. They reasoned that the kids must live close to the base. Or at least, it was a hunch. So Soundwave and Laserbeak began surveying the area around Jasper, now that they knew it was somewhere in there.

Then, in Hard Knocks, Laserbeak found Smokescreen driving, which was further proof that this was the right area. Laserbeak was minutes away from the base. All they had to do was sweep that immediate area to find the base. And look at that. They found a large mountain in the middle of nowhere with tire tracks leading to it, and a helicopter pad on top. Sticks out like a sore thumb if you really try to look for it.

Even if they didn't find the base by Regeneration, they knew the immediate area of it. Hence why Megatron created Darkmount on their doorstep. Plus, there was Fowler's arrival and the Autobots suddenly appearing on the top of a mountain. But like I said, it should've been painfully easy to find the base once they found Smokescreen driving around it in Hard Knocks.

And no, the incidents with Skyquake didn't take place near the base.

It's not about WANTING to die, its about being WILLING to die. Altruism not fatalism. I possess no wish to die but, if the stakes are high enough, would be willing to. That does not make me suicidal, because I kid you not I will not allow myself to just be recklessly sacrificed.

And Ratchet did not regard the kids as worthless, simply unimportant at the moment because he was focused on something else.
