I think I prefer how these designs look? I particularly like the attempt to give Orion his G1 helmet and the crest on Megs.

Plus they look not quite as scrawny as they do in the final film.

IMO this design for Orion does not look like he could be a miner.

Absolutely beautiful landscapes. Perhaps more stunning than the film, which was already one of the better looks at the planet we have gotten.

Orion not having the chest-window while cogless makes sense, glad they made that choice, but I do like that helmet a lot.

Those concept heads ooze IDW and Alex Milne. I really liked what we got in the final version, but these are nice too!

Glad the designs evolved and changed from here. The references in the heads are nice but the bodies and art style really don't do it for me.

Love the G1 toy homages in some of Megatron's helmets here. The little cheek vents, the crown. Awesome stuff.

Those head designs look pretty cool, I like the toy details on 16\'s head. Maybe in the concept series we could get these as figures?

Oooooooo this is why TFOne Megatron was labeled as HM. High Moon was the production name.

    Wow talk about a downgrade.

From good proportions with normal, sensible faces to long-legged, awkward-faced abominations.

I will ask the same question I ask everytime, why can't we have cool robots anymore?? Is it really so hard?

I dunno, if they start out as heroic-looking as they do in the concepts, there isn't as far for them to go when they're improved.

Seems like starting from awkward, gangly bots gives them more room to grow.

I can understand that point, except that even after their upgrades they still look like long-legged, awkward-faced abominations.

I’m glad they ditched the ugly IDW/ low rent MCU Iron Man torso design because dear god it looks out of place with the Marvel heads

And most importantly I think they don't look like teenagers in those or you know..that overly "friendly" look

Allow me to answer the question; Yes. It is hard to make anything cool in 3D. I tried modeling faces a few times, and it always looked too flat, too weird, too angular. Maybe bendy robot faces only really work in a 2d medium... unless you're Mainframe.
