RotB probably saved marketing money, though, thanks to the SAG strike. No need to pay for airfare and hotels for your cast to make media appearances. Folks like to bat around the marketing costs but it's really an unknown X-Factor - could be more, could be a lot less.

General rule I've heard is 1.5x the production budget, which is where my 2.5x minimum is derived from. I could be wrong of course, but its also important to keep in mind that theatre splits are not consistent across regions, so its all very variable.

Alpha Trion looks cool, though whether or not I get this figure depends on whether he gets a Studio Series and how it looks. Not interested in mainline Prime compared to the Studio Series. And the gimmick figs are gimmick figs, I'll have fun watching an Emgo video about them at some point and then forget about them.

Totally fair. At the end of the day, it got a sequel greenlit, so I think it's fair to say it didn't bomb or flop. And not just any sequel, but a sequel that directly follows up on the G.I. Joe reveal from the end of ROTB, so it's not like it'll get revamped like Bumblebee did to separate it from the Bay movies.

It made enough for Paramount/Hasbro to be comfortable enough to do a follow-up, this is true. I personally think its more to do with the toys than the box office performance, but that's neither here nor there.

I am very curious to see how the G.I. Joe crossover film turns out.

The silver paint on Prime Changer Prime looks 10000% better than the butterscotch grey unpainted plastic on Studio Series. :puke2:

Is it bad that I like the mainline Prime more than the SS one? The articulation and clear windows are definitely positives on the Studio end, but the proportions and colours seem much better here.

Also Alpha Trion is rad. I wish Prime had ankles like he does though.

You think the toys we have yet to see will be of significantly higher quality?

I mean love it or hate it they did still come up with a unique character design specifically for that one specific mold. They don't do that kind of thing anymore.

FYI, screen rant is wrong about what the 2.5 accounts for. It's written it accounts for marketing, but it does not. Marketing is a seperate expense to the production budget.
The reason you heard a film needs to make 2 times it's budget was because north american theatres keep 50% of the ticket sales. So, of course a film has to make 2 times its production budget to break even on that cost.

But international markets only give back 40% to the distributor, and china only gives back 25% (keeping 75% of ticket sales). So that's where the 2.5 number comes from, being an international aggregate estimate. And ROTB being an international film, the 2.5 ratio is more on point then.

None of this is meant to contradict you though, just letting you know what's up with all this and the different numbers used. By any standard ROTB is not a flop, as you say. It just wasn't very profitable at the box office.

No. Out of the 1986 movie toys, I’d say Rodimus Prime and Wheelie are but those are the only ones.

Not super interested in what I\'m seeing here so far, although I LOVE the very existence of transforming cosplay masks, so those are nice to see again.

Honestly from the 2 deluxes shown I don\'t think the aesthetic could slip into the aesthetic of the figures im collecting right now. Still waiting to be surprised. Perhaps there willl be a standout or 2.

Alpha Trion is a beast. And we see something that looks a bit like Blackarachnia. hmmmm? May be there will be a small mix of BW.

I was just messing around. And yes, I do appreciate all those original movie designs (except for Wheelie).
