To give you a good idea of how dark it is; it's the only entry in the franchise where Megatron - the villain - has won. Both before the series began, and in the metaphorical sense when Primal unlocked the Plasma Energy Chamber and used it to tackle Megatron's Key To Vector Sigma program.

He essentially dragged Primal down to his level.

This is a shit point because there are films older much than TF'86 that are still held in high regard. Good movies are timeless. And so are ones that can easily be marketed for nostalgia bait.
    TF86 is the latter.

"Hey, this character's voice is damaged, let's just take it out and put in a new one, so they can have any voice that they want?"

He does realize they got Mutemath to score the theme for one of his movies, Optimus Prime said, "Your face, give it to me!", and they killed off Sam, Ron, and Judy offscreen. Alas, a neighborhood shall be forever without its Watch captain and Decepticon ladies will be without their favorite human to seduce.

Just had our couple friends over last week to watch DOTM with our new sound system, it was their first time seeing it. That exact scene came up and my buddy launched to the edge of his seat and went "OH CRAP" and it was awesome. Love me some DOTM.

In fairness, Shia Labeouf was done with these movies as early as ROTF. I honestly do not blame him for not wanting to reprise his role.

I'm not really picking a dog in that competition.

I'm just saying the 86 movie's darkness appeals to some people and that it is possibly the only movie to put a song with its Weird Al Parody so it has a unique lightness too.

And that Lorenzo is a funny one to be going on about darkness at this point. It would have cost nothing to tell kids that Sam and Mikaela are living on a farm upstate now where there's room to run around.

Isn't he also the same guy who kept saying they weren't going to use Unicron, since he was 'Too Big', only to have him show up as THE EARTH ITSELF in The Last Knight?

I'm actually wondering if he has some kind of memory loss disorder.

And he said that the movie with Unicron in space is a prequel to the one where Unicron is inside Earth.

I'd pay good money for a well known director and screenwriter to stage a meeting with him where they pitch the next film as being about getting Unicron inside Earth and just generally taking all of Lorenzo's statements and making a movie that commits to making all of them accurate.

I'd also pay good money to have someone hire him an accountant. And every time Lorenzo mentions Unicron, said accountant is legally obligated to hit him with the Covenant Of Primus.

Yes, but also no. Mostly yes, but no for the most part. However, it probably is, but there's a strong indication it's not. Most signs point to no, but you can't rule out the possibility that it is.

There’s a higher chance of Lorenzo saying it is even if it actually isn’t

The thing with the prequel or not dylema is that Lorenzo is not even all that responsible. I mean as a producer he clearly has some words to say but for example neither Hasbro nor Paramount confirmed if BumbleBee or Rise of the Beasts are in fact a new continuity. Steven Caple Jr. said in the TheAlfonsoNation interview that it was a completely new direction but Lorenzo says that it was obviously a prequel. The same way Cooler sai the day the trailer of One was released he said this movie was its own thing. Even the SS Concept Art Megatron is some kind of time paradox. The situation is \'\'technically this is a soft-reboot but it is also a prequel to Bayverse\'\'. I mean they have to decide in time because the main plot of Rise of the Beasts contradicts what it was stablished in The Last Knight. Neither the best writer in the world could justify how the Autobots were on Earth since 1987 and made an alliance with G.I.Joe when in 2007 is stablished that was the first time Optimus and BumbleBee stepped on Earth, or explain how the Earth is Unicron in The Last Knight but in 1994 is still out there in some point of the galaxy after the destruction of the Transwarp Key.
    I don\'t know.
