There are few things I wouldn't give to see the initial reaction from the designers when they were given an indication of how the 'Bayverse' designs were gonna look.

Whether they thought of it as a fun challenge or looked like that one meme of the soldier with the thousand yard stare.

Is it me or is that box/movie render looking way higher quality than I expected from an animated movie. Like even knowing ILM is doing it, that looks crisp.

You’re missing out considering it’s only a few figures out of an entire years worth of stuff that get effected.

    I really dig this figure!

    Robot Mode:
This is pretty much what I always imagined Optimus should have looked like on Cybertron in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 1".
But since he's a DLX, I can take this as what his very first upgrade after being rebuilt by Alpha Trion could have looked like.
I can definitely see the various influences that have been mentioned by others in the design.
Looks pretty damn solid, but does look like it may suffer from short-thigh syndrome.

    Alt Mode:
    I really like this.
It's got a really good mix of looking alien while retaining the general shape of a semi cab.
Some of the robot parts end up in unexpected places.
And I suspect the transformation is deceptively complex.
    I only have two nit-picks.
First is the visible forearms just hanging out there on the side, but I don't think that will be difficult to mod.
Second is the faux parts on the front of the cab.
I detest faux parts, so those will have to go on my copy.

    Things of Note:
He has wheels, but not tires.
Clearly the alt mode is meant to be a hover vehicle hence the rollers on his shoulders and probably also on the backs of his legs.
I wonder if the the "smoke stacks" swivel?
They are pointing down on the popcorn bucket.
Also, the popcorn bucket had a lot of differences from this figure.
I wonder which is more accurate to the movie?

My expectations for this movie were at rock bottom pending the reveal of the character designs.
This figure greatly improved my attitude towards it.
We'll see if the trailer can sway me further.

We haven't seen a trailer yet so it's hard to judge, but I would have assumed the renders would be no different.

I think you might be underestimating what animated movies usually look like nowadays, we've long left the lane of stuff like Shrek and Jimmy Neutron. Nothing there is particularly fancier or more impressive, specially in this blurry state, than other renders for current animated films. I like the render alot too but it's not really punching above others.

Well no, I’ve seen a lot of recent Pixar stuff. They have amazing visuals. Just, I wasn’t expecting Paramount’s to look like a crisp proper high quality animated design rather than something stylized or mimicking 2d like a lot of recent films.

The lighting and reflections are honestly what’s catching my eye.

Yeah it looks very grabby, almost like he could be real despite being obviously animated and cartoony in it's shapes and proportions. Chalk it up to ILM's experience with Live-action stuff mixing well with a good after-taste with an animated film project.

Its much more than a few if you pay attention to the thread about it in the toy discussion forum. I've been lucky to miraculously not have any issues with the figures that I have that are known to have the yellowing issues, but others aren't. If 5 figures come out in a new wave, atleast 3 or more of them seem to have the issue at some point.

Regarding the complaints about him being a deluxe, I think it's actually scale-accurate. Isn't the idea that Optimus/Orion is the same size as his peers (Megatron, Bee, and Elita) in this movie? I thought we heard that somewhere. I think he's basically the size of a regular car Autobot here, meaning his altmode is probably more akin to a pickup truck. Probably gains more mass during the war as a result of upgrades.

The render is looking good. Initially I thought the head looked a little big, but I think the trim from the black background makes it look bigger than it's supposed to be. He looks well proportioned.

Well, we know the Commander releases this year...

So far, we've gotten TFA, Target, the lunar rover thing, and re-releases of Earthrise, Gamer Edition, and SG

Perhaps an SG TFA Optimus next, packaged with SG TFA Bumblebee?

Hmm... I dunno... Not feeling this figure...

I think it's that "off grey" color they're using on him. I remember it from the Powermaster Optimus Prime from the Titans Return line and how badly it stood out there (especially compared to the Japanese release).
If it was a lighter grey, it would be so much better. Also, the lower arms being that off color instead of red is throwing me off as well.

Otherwise, he kind of makes me think of the War Within Optimus mixed with the Cybertron games kinda with a G1 truck mode addition...
