RARR! Scary old guy is out to destroy all alien robots! Reconstituted Allspark cube may destroy itself, making it a non-point for the next movie! I'm finding it hard to understand why I keep picking up this title. The art isn't so great, and I'm realizing that I just don't care about what's happening. I suppose that I continue buying it because I've been picking up the Movie-verse books since the prequel to the first movie, but really if I had skipped this series, I wouldn't have been missing much.
Well, I am curious if the Spoiler Mobile Attack Base that the Autobots mentioned ties directly into pictures that have come out of Chicago with Prime and Spoiler his trailer! . Could the humans have found it, and that is their source of reverse engineering?
I'll agree, it is a bit on the bad side. Especially since we already had the whole "rebuilt Allspark" subplot in Reign of Starscream. Still, I'm hungry for more movieverse fiction, so this fits that bill. I am really just despising Carlos Magnos' art, though. Sorry if you happen to be reading this, buddy, but your art is way way WAY too cluttered and indistinct for Movie TFs. His TFs are constistently "off-model" in panels, and any TFs that weren't in the movies proper, except for Dirt Boss or Soundwave's minions, are hard to identify. They're just a mass of squiggles with a couple of vehicle parts-- not to mention he draws Ransack, Dune Runner, and Reverb COMPLETELY differently from the actual toys in robot mode. (Ransack has a mustache made out of his propeller? Reverb has four arms? Dune Runner looks like Landmine? ...What?) And I'm sure there were SUPPOSED to be a bunch of cool cameos at the end of the most recent issue, but I can't even identify any of them except Armorhide. And even then I'm confused, because I see RotF Armorhide and, I THINK, the TF1 Armorhide. Still, I think the most interesting aspect of this series deals with Soundwave. In the most recent episode of [email protected], they were discussing how given his odd panel backgrounds in issue #1, Soundwave might be a Brainmaster. Repost of that here:
Yeah, the Brainmaster angle is a neat one. And I really WANT to like this title, if for nothing else than the fact that they're expanding on Soundwave. But this whole "Initiative" thing is really rubbing me the wrong way. And the cheesy pose the old guy has when he says "I am the Initiative" was just too much. I glad this is being concluded next issue, and I am going to give whatever Movie-verse comics that come after this a SERIOUS once-over before purchasing.
Tis a shame too, IDW's movieverse comics were pretty damn good up until this series (adaptations not included).
