    In the minority

I just thought the movie was just ok overall. The CGI and action scenes were phenomenal. Acting by Shia was great. The script had some intentionally funny moments. It was a joy to see TFs beating up each other on the big screen.

But the lack of characterization was astounding--humans and robots. Other than Sam and Bumblebee, barely anyone had character, let alone character development. Also, the pacing of the movie was very uneven, with a saggy middle and a lot of pointless stomping around in Sam's back yard. The stuff with Sector 7 was pretty lame too.

It was a decent project, but not outstanding. I'd give it a C+ or B- at most.

Good movie, I agree with some posters, Prime very.....ummmmmm.......umPrime-like at times??? ( If that makes sense). Jazz went out kinda lame, didn't like that either. Peter Cullen as Prime, does it for me every time. Should have heard him at Bot Con, that man is a god!!!! Alot of lines that NEEDED to be int he movie were there ( One shall stand and one shall fall, Autobots, transform and rollout, that stuff).

The Movie was awesome. Just got back from seeing it and it blew my mind. I was currious as to why they changed Brawl to Demolisher? Other than that it was so freakin' sweet. I was sad to see that Jazz was lost durring battle, torn in two by Megs Ouch!. I was kinda suprised to see Barricade knocked off so early in the movie, I guess I thought he would last longer. I am glad to see that BB was repaired and taken of the DL at the end, and how about that voice in the only line the had the entire movie? Anyway over all great movie, I will defenetly get it if/when it comes out on DVD.

Also what ever happend to Starscream? I don't recall ever seeing him destroyed durring the movie.

    WOW-better but could be better

I really, really hate the way the robots look--they are too bony looking-but not too much we can do about that except complain. At certain points I had a hard time following which was Autobot and which was Decepticon-they both look exactly alike in robot form. It was very fast moving, but at times-a little too fast. I loved the parts that seemed to be pulled right out of the Transfomers cartoon movie (from back in the day). There was one part towards the end in the downtown scene where one of the Autobots drove quickly transformed onto the Decepticon tank (I forget the names-the sequences were too fast) and he pulled back on the canon in similar fashion to Kup in the earlier cartoon Movie (when Hot Rod and and Danial were on lookout mountain-hopefully you guys remember that, my husband didn't even pick up on that one)-but it definately reminded me of the scene. I agree pretty much with everybody else here, about the pros and cons--and I too think Megan Fox needs acting lessons, or hopefully they replace her for part 2 and 3. As much as I hated the robot designs, I think the movie pleasantly surprised me. It was outstanding on many aspects. It went way above my expectations and everyone in the theatre clapped when the movie ended!

Like the rest of everyone, I have been a fan for more years then I can count. One thing that I always look for when dealing with a movie that is based on something that I geek out about, is the atmosphere. Does it have the atmosphere that I felt with the original material (I did this with Silent Hill).

I Felt I was 6 again. The atmosphere, the very SPIRIT that makes Transformers what it is, is there, in spades. I was honestly breathless at some parts. While, yes, there are somethings that are in no way connected to what I grew up with, this movie is in every way, what I have been wanting since I was a kid.

Prime: This is Prime in every way, including the "taking care of business" he did with Bonecrusher. Peter Cullen, you are a God in my book.

Iron Hide: Love the Weapon specialist aspect. He is defiantly a mix of the veteran, and the hard ass that we love so much. I love the alt mode.

Ratchet: Could of used more scenes to show he actually is a medic, but other then that, he is very much the same character.

Bumblebee: The Same sensitive character, with the caring compassion we have all come to expect. I do love the voice aspect, and how it made him seem more like a gentle giant.

Jazz: Wow. Perfect character, even though he did go out rather quickly. Perfect voicing.

Frenzy: My God, get that anatomic an Oscar. Very well done, and is perfect in the crazy character model

Blackout: Best toy in the line, great task master.

Barricade: DAMN! I want one! Very much the deceiver, and head hunter.

Bonecrusher: Ok, not in there nearly has long has he could of been, but a kick ass character.

Devastator: I thought he was Brawl? But a nice tank character.

Scorpinok: I prefer the headmaster versions intelligence, but the hunter/killer role really suits him.

Starscream: Very little talk time, with no real chance to get the character, but a needed character to start a sequel.

Megatron: Hugo, you are a perfect choice! This is the spark thirsty tyrant I have come to have a love/hate relationship with.

All in all, this is the best Movie of the year for me so far. I cannot wait for Transformers 2!

    Rose colored glasses

    <moved from review board>
I am not going to go into how absolutely terrible this flick was, that has been done very accurately and eloquently already. I'm wondering how anyone, wether they are transformer or movie fans, could possibly think this was anything but a horrible movie. I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but I think some people are letting their love of TF's cloud their judgement. OR. For those out there that enjoyed it from a cinematic standpoint, well..... you're most likely confused as to why "torque" didn't make AFI's top 100. The good old "loud noises and shiny things" demographic. The reason high RPM- low IQ movies like this exist.

    Sorry if I offend.

and by the way I realize my post will probably be deleted. sorry, but I don't ever hold my tongue, "not for you to comment on each others reviews". I'm a firm believer in that pesky freedom of speech thing.

P.S. AFI = American Film Institute

PUT IT IN THE F'ING MOVIE!

You gotta be shitting me if you expect the average viewer (non-TF fan) to pick up TF reading material after seeing this movie. Yeah, $9 a ticket plus the cost of books to explain what ever the hell it was that they just watched, sounds like a winner to me.

MB is great with explosions, not so good with the directing. Yes, its very easy to criticize blah blah, but he was offered help by the likes of DeSanto and whined about how he didn't take it and how proud he was. So many folks (read: the ones who didn't make up their mind to ignore plot holes and other topics they'd criticize in any other movie) came expecting to see a movie about Transformers, instead we got "Sam'n'Mikaela: Robots invaded, we found love!"

Was enjoying the action and pace until just past the BB vs Barricade chase seen, then TFs seemed to scoot over and let the humans drive. Sometimes they'd reappear for some blurry action or to show how Xtreme they were, but then bots like Brawl/Bonecrusher volunteered for chump fodder roles. Really pisses me off I was trying to sell friends/family on this movie, tried to give it a chance and it really disappointed.

It's not a terrible movie, but its definitely not great either. Its mediocre and what really grinds my gears is that so many folks know it but won't admit it. If some of y'all liked it for mindless explosions/teen humor thats cool -- but I've seen so much disappointment on these boards focused at other movies that had the exact same flaws. And honestly, the first thing that springs to mind is the NSA young-hackers crap. A better director would have saved that for DVD extras, its cool though cause it made for great pee-break time.

Really even for an origin movie this is just unacceptable -- the Autobots got very little characterization at all -- except for Ironhide (kinda over-the-top with the guns there, pal) and Prime (impatient at the beginning, emo at the end). These guys should have been the core of the movie. Their story should be the centerpiece; any group of humans could be in the second -- Mikaela and same are not all that essential. And the poor decepticons -- sheesh.

Really favorite part was BB vs Barricade. Would have been nice if we could have seen, say Ironhide vs. Brawl before the end battle. Could have set up a rivalry and a bit more engaging back story for that final battle. Decepticons retreating per SS's orders would have been nice. ANYTHING to give them more than 1-2 lines would have been great. I mean, really, they had Barricade looking and SOUNDING really awesome when he confronted Sam. This "they don't wanna talk like insects" argument is just cover for what could have added depth. Its a cheap way of making a movie. And if it was true they could have had far more Cybertronian banter with some very evil-sounding dialog.

Just cried cheap-ass to me. But man, I'm just silly for expecting anything out of Hollywood these days. Every movie is just a rehash of another and American entertainment just gets dumbed down more and more each year. I honestly expected more out of MB and despite hearing how little time Decepticons get, I didn't realize it was that little. What a dissapointment :(

I get the same feelings man. I got excited for this line, bought all the figs including the helmet/blasters. I was so excited and could not believe how over-hyped this movie was. It is honestly mediocre at best and I think people are being way too kind to it. Now is the time for the folks making TF:2 to listen to reasonable complaints and make a much better sequel.

    Too many Negative reactions

I can't believe so many people are reacting negatively to such a great movie!!! I am of the opinion that it was dead on. "His pheramone level implies that he wishes to mate with the female." Great lines, amazing effects, solid acting (except agent Simmons) and good continuity = A+++ for me. Yes I have some gripes too but they are drowned but the rest of the film so much that I wish the sequel was already filmed. Not to mention that this was the best birthday present that someone who grew up with the transformers could ever have!!! Hapy B-day to me. Can't wait to see a live action HOTROD!!!

Kill Ratchet??? Nononononno! Not Ratchet! Neither Jazz nor Ratchet!! Why would either, or any Autobot for that matter, have to die at all? :cry

Least it wasn't another Transformers: The Movie G1 killfest. :rolleyes2

    ===

Saw the movie at the 12 pm showing today. Yay!

Loved it! Lived up to expectations. Only complaint I have is what in the heck does Hollywood think it can gain by inserting crude language, crude attempts at humor, and sexual overtones? A movie can certainly be much more entertaining without it and be open to a wider audiance. The amount of violence shown, however, was understandable. Especially given the subject matter of robotic beings of monsterous-size (for the most part anyay) having their war here on Earth. It isn't like either Autobot or Decepticon would be fighting with popples.

Like I said, except for the aforementioned I loved the movie. The story was good flowing and easy to follow along.

I like it when the movie-makers simply leaves the audiance to assume the obvious without it having spelled out for them. Ex: Scorponok survived sans some of his tail since he was last see crawling into the sand. Military learned of TF repair and regeneration abilities. Some have complained Barricade was taken out by Bee only to be mysteriously brought back? But why? The end of the fight was off screen. And Barricade may have merely needed time for repairs. They were apparently completed by the time the Decepticon rallying call was given.

Frenzy was hilarious. Some of his chitterings sounded kinda cute actually. Some may consider him a joke. In some places he may have been but so what? Most most movies have at least one for some extra comedy relief Just look at Merry, Pippin, and Gimili for Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Or what about two certin droids of Star Wars fame?

Speaking of comedy...well, I don't agree the Bot/Con factions were made to appear as jokes. In relating to humans and Earth in general there's bound to be the "fish out of water" humor in place. Glad the size differnces and the relations were played on. (Unlike in the Chevy commercials...like where that one valet is rooting for Megs, then tells the customer: "Don't think we're liable for that.")

Regarding the human/robot time-frame: the tagline is "Their war, our world." One's gotta expect there would be a good deal of time devoted to just how humanity (or at least those who would know) would react if one inert Tf was found and had the knowledge more may be coming...and what may happen when they actually did.

Not many liked Star Wars: Episode One either if I recall right. Didn't seem to be "Star Wars". But for any story there has to be a beginning. In Star Wars case, Ep 1 was forming a foundation for what was to come. It didn't add to the Star Wars universe...it was explaining it. In Transformers guess what? The Autobots and Decepticons were rather single-minded. And why shouldn't they have been? Their long search for the All-Spark was over. There was a new battleground. And Earth and its people were in the middle. Would think a potential sequeal would go more in depth into some of the Tfs since the human authorities already knew of their prescence.

Thought the translations of written cybertronian and then into english was was very nice touch.

Now the long wait for the November release of the DVD. Until then, will probably ramble s'more later.

Just came back from seeing it. It was pure awesomeness! In fact it's the first movie that I see at a theater where the crowd react to, was really great. All the funny part had the people laughing/reacting, and at the end the movie got a small ovation!

I must say I'm glad I have seen it on first day, and I'll maybe go back again with other peoples (was alone this time), wich will be another first for me !

Go Mister Bay, make a lot of money on this and make another one please :D

I've read through more than a few negative opinions of the movie and there have been many valid point to which I do agree with. There's one thing that does bug me about some of these posts... the suggestion that we who do like the movie are just being good little sheep. That we love a bad movie, because it's a transformers movie. Though there are some out there who would do just that, I just can't say that's the case here at all.

I love movies, and I've seen a bit of just about everything. I know what goes into making a good story, film (whatever).... and nothing about this film misses the mark.

Now my own bias would be that I love robots. Have since I was a kid.... and it was Transformers that started that love. TFs lead me to Anime, and mecha bliss. So after all these years I've been dieing for a real damn good movie about robots that was handled correctly. Lets look at what has been offered up till now.... films that were about or had robots featured in some way.... starting off with pobibly the two best.... Robocop 1-2, Termiator 1-2... then there are films like Short Circut, Returner, Robo jocks, Judge Dredd, Lost in Space. So if only on the level of being a live action robot movie... Transformers is king of the hill. This film finally gave me what I've been wanting to see on the big screen for decades.

As a stand alone film. If this was the very first time Transformers was introduced, if history was changed and Hasbro never got there hands on the original takara molds and reinvented it as TFs.... and by some mirical Micheal Bay and Speilberg came up with the whole thing... I would have been blown so far out of my mind that I'd need google maps to find it again.

Is the film perfect... on no, not even close. I see the flaws in it... I know they are there. But here is the point, this may be the only time I've ever competely not cared. I forgive every little thing that should really have pissed me off. I was so taken back by everything and how cool it looked, that even something as basic as my die hard stance of Prime not EVER EVER EVER having a mouth.... was replaced by, look how awsome Prime is when he is talking. Would it have been better that he only had the face plate.... oh yes, definatly. IMO seeing Primes face plate move up and down would have made me cry.

There seemed to be alot of that in the movie. Where it comes so close to being perfect but comes up short. But, and here is my big but.... it was by far the best movie experence I've had since Lion King. Where a film totally sucks me in I'm so happy that I'm laughing throughout the film. Not because it's funny, but because I'm filled with so much joy. Going back through my life there have been films that I've latched onto and loved on this level... first being Star Wars, then Empire, Raiders of the lost ark, Jedi (sort of, even at a young age I was becoming critical), Temple of Doom, Transformers the movie (animated), Robo Cop (for it's time), Pulp Fiction, nightmare before christmas, and the lion king.

I can even say that I am a bit of fallower, as an example lets me use the new Star Wars trilogy. Episode 1, now there is a film I really wanted to like, love and get into. I tried so hard to love that movie. I mean, going by the numbers I should have... but it lacked spirit, heart on a grand level. As time went on I've grown to like them a bit more.... but it took some effort.

Transformers was so the opsite of this for me. It won me over so completely. Every little thing I thought was a bad decision from primes mouth, no true classic consistant TFing sound, the general character designs, the altering of the basic story, the all spark, the way to heavy human element..... everything negative I had was swept away when I saw Blackout walking around the military base blowing shit up. Hell, they could have even called the All Spark the Energon Cube... and I would have LOVED it! Even just today when I was telling someone about the movie, I referred to the all spark as the energon cube a few times.

Even the first half of the film was entertaining. No TFs insight.... except for Bumblebee's car mode herby'esc antics.... it was great. I SOOOOOO hated the idea of Bumblebee not being able to talk and using the radio to communicate. I thought of it as some dumb writers gimic... wouldn't it be neat and cute if BB couldn't talk, that would be a neat character gimic. My reaction, NO FREAKEN WAY. In such a short time, only two hours, with so many characters... he'd never get his personality across..... and he'd be reduced to an R2 D2 status of cute lovable sidekick. In my mind, even thinking about it now.... it's a bad decision. Yet it so worked. The whole time I loved it. The whole first third of the film was like this. Lots of fun momments to keep you entertained until they could bring in the full cast of TF characters. I'm not even sure there would have been any other way to do it without tripling the movies budget.

I mean, it would have been great if they could have droped the whole code breaker sub plot.... as it didn't do anything for the story.... and didn't even go anywhere.... by the end of the film they were completely irelivant. It would have been nice to cut that and have given some time to the Decepticons that were hiding on earth. Even knowing this.... I still don't care. Because the high points of this film are so fantastic... that I can forgive what I consider bad choices or flaws. It's more than just forgiving them..... I out right just forget about them. They don't matter because it sucked me in so much.

I'd just like to say I am not going to be dismissed as some kind of TF fanboy fallower because I loved this film. I'm not a weak minded person.... I have my own tastes and opions..... and I say that in my opinion Transformers the live action movie.... could arguably be the best movie I have ever seen. At the very least it was the most enjoyable film experence I've had since child hood with the Star Wars films, and the orignal animated TF movie.

Trust me on this, not everyone who, according to you, who fits into the "loud noises and shiny things" demographic can't understand why "Torgue" (did you notice how the title should be capitalized?) isn't in the AFI top 100. That movie sucked, I fit into the previously mentioned demographic and can see that. Of course I watch the more intellectual films and find them entertaining as well, but you can't judge ever movie on par as those films. To judge "Transformers" with the likes of, say, "Citizen Kane" would be like judging a compact car against a Bugatti Veyron on the catagories of handling and speed.

There are different genres in film that can't be compared to each other. Most of the time they mix together like oil and water (Spiderman 3 anyone?). Other times--but on very rare occasions--they go together like bees and honey (Terminator 2: Judgment Day). This is one of the formers, trust me on this.

And no I'm not letting my love of Transformers could my better judgement on this, I honestly like this movie. I went as a skeptic because it is a Micheal Bay movie, but was impressed by the movie. Yes I had my own nit-picks about it, but I found it enjoyable. Just go ahead and check out previous post on page 21, and judge me how you want to.
