Threads like this can be interesting but I really wish some of you would expand more on why you had these thoughts. For instance:

    What made you think this?

Where did this idea come from?

I did the reverse of this and thought my house had a "scream door" in the front (it was squeaky). :D

I once thought that all of BW Megatron's talk of being inspired by a previous Megatron was to cover up the fact that he WAS the original Megatron, remade into a new form and trying to restart his war in a more subtle fashion.

Only when he tried to merge with the previous Megs did I realize, wait, he's just some dude who got inspired :lol

I used to think Cliffjumper was just a red bumblebee.
I thought Bulkhead and Lockdown were in g1.

Just talkin' about the misconception that the newer, simpler stuff is bad just because of its simplicity.

When I saw the first episode of Beast Wars, I thought the same and I thought Dinobot was Starscream. It just didn't seem weird to me that Starscream didn't have his usual voice and was now a velociaptor since Megatron was now a tyrannosaurus rex. They were bickering. It made sense.

Then, when I was getting back into watching Beast Wars, I briefly wondered if Terrorsaur was Starscream because he was red, a flyer, acted kind of like he would and had the same kind of voice (in my head).

I thought the same thing. If my memory serves me correctly, they aired a G1 episode prior to the airing of Animated, so I assumed it was one long story. Of course, I was eight, so eh

Not something I'm guilty of, but my mother and sister confuse Gobots and Transformers for the same cartoon. To the point that, for some reason, they remember Gobots characters in Transformers (specifically Scooter and some humans that definitely weren't there). I've pointed out to both of them that both shows aired around the same time and that might be the source of their confusion, but my mom at least is adamant that Scooter was in Transformers and that Optimus turned into a jet with his trailer.

It's funny because now there's the Mini-Con Scooter and several variants of Optimus that combine with jet bots/have jet equipment.

Sort of. They used G1 footage for the war video Optimus watches at the beginning of Roll Out. I didn't pay much attention back then, maybe they did air a bunch of G1 episodes leading up to the premier of Animated.

Now that would have been a cool idea, if only G1 Megatron were anything like BW Megatron.

I thought there was only one continuity. From G1 till Energon I was racking my brain getting a massive head ache trying to figure out how all those cartoons were connected.

When I got back into TF, I had it set in my head that Skywarp and Thundercracker were totally loyal to Starscream...and I found it sad that Screamer would toss them out like trash in the '86 movie.

Boy was I wrong. Found out Skywarp was actually more loyal to Megs than Starscream ever was (at least in G1 cartoon), which is a total flip from how I portray him (as in, if Star asked him too, he'd totally, literally, stab Megs in the back....). TC a doubter of the cause.

As to why I thought that way? I'm not sure. Combination of relying on old memories of the franchise and fanon influence I guess.

This crime of false memory is usually committed by guys around my age (41) who haven't seen or held a Transformer in 34 years.
"The original ones were all metal"

    No they weren't. :p

Yes but I would imagine like many of us here you actively collect and ain't working off of old dusty memories. Me and my bro have a shop that sells TF's and many times I've heard guys our age make the original ones were all metal comment. Not so much that if I had a dollar for each time someone said that I could close the store and live like King Henry, but enough times to make us chuckle. Those same guys are likely to point a modern figures and call them "fake".. because they're plastic and the original ones are all metal. The type of person who makes that comment isn't a TF fan or toy collector of any kind. More of a real regular guy type who hasn't seen or held or thought about a TF in 34 years.
