I don’t know what worries me more. The fact that corperate merchandising has reached this point where it will pawn off the stupidest shit imaginable for whatever media franchise it can, or that people will buy enough of it to make a profit. The consoomer memes aren’t even memes at this point.
PFFFFT. I know about these, I'm kinda tempted not gonna lie... these are cute. Shockwave's got a bite taken out of his head....
At the end of the year I want a catalog of all the weird crossover stuff they did for the 40th. If they're going this wild, what's their plan for the 50th?
I don’t think a person wanting a particular piece of merchandise is bad. I myself love weird and wacky shit, but this in context with the plethora of millions of other pieces of desperate merchandising just feels so… awful. I mean, I know it sounds hipocritical, but have you ever just walked around a Walmart and stared at all the things you know are going to either collect dust on shelves or end up in landfills in a year? Merchandising is out of control, there are no standards anymore. Figures serves some sort of purpose, but people will throw reconizable faces on anything for a quick buck. And again, it’s not these particular ice cream things that make me say this, but the entire context of media merchandising in general. It’s disgusting, and the idea that it might actual work is terrifying.
They could probably unironically create an artificial island built off of all the unsold Funko pops out there....
