I'm wondering if this "hammer" you collect parts of is NOT a weapon, but the bridge of a ship named "the Hammer"

I would assume getting a character out a mold you can tell it was never really meant for. Sure, T30 Sandstorm is colored like Sandstorm with one mode that sorta resembles the original if you squint, but I don't think anyone outside of Hasbro looked at the original T30 Springer mold and went "Yeah, that'll make a fine Sandstorm" without knowledge of the extensive retooling that'd go into it. And considering that his helicopter mode became a VTOL mode and his robot mode didn't resemble his original G1 counterpart beyond colors, it's not a fantastic update to G1 Sandstorm either. Still a pretty great figure, though.

... That'd be more weird than if they just included a big hammer. D:

Hot take but, I think it looks better than G1 Sandstorm. This is because I think G1 Sandstorm is an ugly mess of boxes and the Gen one is a good reinvention of taking what design elements you can and making a workable robot out of it

This is coming from a person who like Cybertron Thundercracker so heck knows I'll embrace a dumb looking transformer. But none of G1 Sandstorm's modes really look good, as opposed to other tripple changers who at least have two good modes

The idea I'm trying to represent is that the original mold defined the character design rather than the other way around. Some mold reuse, like pre-tools, are engineered to support multiple characters and designs, but this is a case where major changes were required, and the original design is still present in weird ways in the final version.

My phrasing was clunky so I'm open to better expressions.

Nothing wrong with liking T30 Sandstorm, but it's very much a Classics-style reimagining that is completely different to better fit with the original mold's aesthetics. And while it would be cool to have "toy universe" or "IDW universe" designs in Legacy, Sandstorm would be near the bottom of my priority list, and certainly not before we get a proper G1 Generations version!

There's actually implications that Nick Roche designed Sandstorm (as a figure) before Springer (as a figure) and that Springer was more or less reverse engineered from the Sandstorm toy design despite coming out first (and his comic design being around first) due to Nick Roche sharing concept art for the Sandstorm figure but not Springer.

Considering the only real attempt we've seen at G1 Sandstorm is the original, and the 3P MPs (none of which have ever done it for me, and also considering there's, what, 2 of them?), I want to think G1 Sandstorm can be pulled off reasonably well if given that engineering budget. He's such a niche character that you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel when you're considering making him, and I think that's unfair to him, I think he could be cool.

Yeah I want Slapdash too, but he NEEDS those Wheel shoulders....And....he's also a yellow and Blue F1 car....he would be the third Yellow F1 car....

Yeah, he's a long shot, because his mold wouldn't have many uses....

I guess they could completely re-engineer the ER Mirage upper body?

Yes! I hope soooo, also which mold???

He was one of the first Wreckers! He was in the cartoon! He's not A-list but he's no more niche than the other non-movie season 3 guys. "Bottom of the barrel!" You know who's bottom of the barrel? Broadside! And yet every forum I go to has people saying, "You know who should be the next Commander Class? Broadside!" Forget Broadside, Sandstorm is the best Autobot triple changer, his time has come.

Clearly the message boards are stacked against me, I need to go to Providence, or call my Senator. This is an outrage.
