I SWEAR I'm done buying upgrades for this fucking figure! I'm happy with how this turned out, but I spent way more on upgrades than I did on the figure itself to get it to this point where I'm, "Yeah, he looks cool now."

  Yeah, I knew better than to buy Scourge because I knew that I didn't love that mold, but with $60+ in upgrades Scourge is a new bot!

 

With the reprolabels it looks like a worthy upgrade of his Destructicon body. An unpleasant process that should not have been necessary, because Hasbro should have gotten it right the first time.

 

I actually liked stock Scourge more than most, mainly because I am a sucker for black repaints and the light-piping on him is incredible, but while I didn't mind the red chest windows I still decided to make him look a little more accurate. A shoulder swap with a spare Laser OP and a Toyhax session later, he is looking nice. I'm fine with leaving the chest black for now, but man what a difference just stickering up the windows and shoulders guards makes!

Not to detract from your enjoyment or what a nice job you've done, but he's a G2 Autobot in your collection? Your faction symbol is upside-down from the Car Robots Combatron symbol, which was just the molded G2 Autobot symbol upside-down, so you've taken the upside-down symbol and upside-downed it.

 

Psst... that's a G2 Decepticon symbol.

 

Oop, so it is, looking on a cell phone, it looked like the Autobot one.

 

So yeah. I got one in the great Ross Rush of 2023. He definitely wears the mold better than OP, a figure I was kinder to than most.

I wish he was in Scourge colors rather than Black Convoy. The translucent red always looked better than Black Convoy's pink. That said, the Energon Fan is somehow even worse looking here, and this is probably still my single most useless accessory ever.

I don't know why, but the dinky sword of Prime's doesn't look as bad on Scourge. For some reason it doesn't feel as comically tiny.

Worth $17, and honestly probably would have been worth retail if I didn't have OP. I think this is a fun figure, it's just not perfect but IMO the best Scourge we've gotten since RID 2001. It's just a shame that it's not an unalloyed improvement over the 22 year old redeco of a 28 year old mold.

Incidentally, I've repurposed Burnout as Scourge's Autobot protoform from the episode of RID before Megatron infected it. Burnout works for me as a Hot Rod to Scourge's Rodimus Prime. Kinda like how I was thinking of getting Masterpiece Reboost as Earth-Mode Orion Pax (that one even has the scooter to be a Roller analog).

 

Picked him up this past weekend at Ross. I was also able back in the early Summer to pick up Laser G2 Prime at a local used toy shop for $20. I concur with other posters who think the mold is better with Scourge over Optimus, but I have the same general issues with the mold either way- it's entertaining, but it isn't fun.

I definitely wouldn't have spent full price on either figure, let alone both. The shoulders sorta kill the potential, the lower half being reused again and again makes it half-old, the tanker isn't great, and the lack of paint on the middle pods under the shoulder covers just doesn't look good. The weaponry is fine on its own but hindered by the "combining" gimmick.

I dunno, it's hard to explain. It looks neat, but doesn't feel neat.

How did you chrome the trailer?

 

I am a crackwhore, so of course I bought this for $17 at Ross. In short, I would have been disappointed had I paid full price. I do like the bot mode…no real complaints there…lightpiping is great…has some decent heft to him as well. But, the transformation isn’t fun, the trailer feels cheap and those side panels do a pretty lousy job of locking the alt mode together…at least on my copy. It likes to bow down in the middle in truck mode. For a $17 Ross find, he’s just fine. But I’ll never buy another version of this mold.

I mean, toy-wise, they have really distinct decos.

Black Convoy has pink translucent plastic and inverted G2 Autobot symbols. Scourge has red translucent plastic and G1 Decepticon symbols. This guy is Black Convoy, not Scourge.
