Scourge was a Decepticon whose protoform scanned and imprinted on Optimus Prime. So he had a personality of his own and Optimus' tactical insight. While he was a redeco of Optimus Prime, it was an Optimus Prime toy from an older line, and hadn't been adapted into a cartoon yet. So in the context of RiD2001, he had a completely unique design, taking clearly Optimus-inspired design cues but in a different asthetic to the Optimus Prime of that series. He also had more going on than just being Optimus but black, with grays and unique chest decals. Nemesis Prime meanwhile was just Optimus but black with teal highlights. He always felt like a cheap knockoff of Scourge with no personality of his own. This is why it's a shame the first Hasbro RiD Scourge in roughly twenty years gets so close (down to the unique faction symbols and pinkish red) only to fall just short by making the chest deco lean away from Scourge and towards Nemesis Prime. I love this figure, but damn it's frustrating that it fumbles the ball right at the goal line.

Nice. I painted the pink shoulder bits solid black which...is a lot of black now. I maybe should have gone with gunmetal like you. Still, if Toyhax comes through with black/grey chest and shoulder stickers, I think my version will look fine.

In RiD, Car Robots in Japan, Scourge was an Autobot protoform that was hijacked by the Decepticons. During battle with the Autobots, the pod scanned both an oil tanker truck, and Optimus (Fire Convoy). The resulting Decepticon came out with the tanker form, and the robot form's head resembled Prime's. He also had an obsession with destroying Optimus for some reason.

The stickers on Korean Black Convoy are still holding up nicely.
    (looks over at titans return)

Am somewhat glad he’s been in a window-less box over all these years.

I have to say: because of the way some of y'all were moaning about this guy's deco, I was really hesitant to buy him at all.

...but y'know what? I like this guy a lot, and that's coming from someone who's also got the original, and likes that one just as much. This toy is not only better than the normal Legacy Optimus on the grounds of being black, but it also feels like a convergence of all the Scourges and Black Convoys that have come before, a definitive answer to the question of what it means to be that character. Never mind what universe he's supposed to be from - it's a toy, use your imagination. Maybe he got an upgrade before the race.

If nothing else, his shoulders can actually go a modicum higher than the original's! Progress marches on.

Perfectly happy with this. I feel like Scourge started the color pallet for dark Primes (Rodimus included) and this is an update on the other end of all that. This feels like a double dip could happen. I could see an accurate version sold cab only in a two pack. I had Fans Hobby Arch Enemy for a number of years and it felt very stand alone. Maybe the experience of having the design again but this time around it fits with my collection and leaves me wondering why people are being so picky.

This sort of clumsy attempt to throw shade is why this site really needs a downvote button. You can like what you like without insulting other ppl, dude.

After passing a few times, I decided to pick up Scourge. I've had him in hand for about a week thus far and he's decent in hand. This is my first experience with the mold and it definitely has some issues with proportions that have been mentioned ad nauseum, as well as the deco selection and transparent pink on the shoulder pauldrons. I like the idea of swapping the pink with the gray on Laser Prime, but there's no way I'm spending retail prices for such a small update.

As for accessories, the sword is cool, the axe is a waste, and its combined mode is silly. The lack of artillery is disappointing and I've preordered the DNA kit to make up for it.

Even with all those issues I still find myself liking this toy - it's fun to handle and transform and while it's not the best Scourge it is a good attempt.

I will say I'll be first in line for Reprolabels from Toyhax, but if you're like me you've got to wonder why not just get the original or Fans Hobby release (~$125 for either) after spending this much (retail $54.99 + 34.99 DNA Kit + TBD Reprolabels) to make him "correct".

yeah, I see a lot of potential here with upgrade kits and deco enhancements but the cost of all that might just make it more practical to go with the Fans Hobby figure.

This figure is still fun to mess with and looks pretty amazing (even with the inaccurate deco changes I don’t love). It is feeling more often the case that these non-G1 updates aren’t exactly “upgrades” or “superior” versions to their original figures. This new version might be superior in articulation and sculpting (though the shoulders are awkward and proportions a little odd with the leggy legs and thin arms) but it really pales to the heft and features of the original.

Not that I expect (or even want) this to replicate all of the original’s play features but it doesn’t really offer all that much in lieu of them. I guess if you think of it simply as a new, more affordable and obtainable Scourge figure then it accomplishes its goals.

Even ignoring the fucked up deco, this really just illustrates to me why this mould doesn't do it as Scourge for me. It's just very unimpressive. The shoulder kibble is massive compared to the limbs and head, even more massive than the original toy. The wheels are all so tiny and flat, the details are all so plain and minimal. No interesting sculpt on the legs, vthe chest doesn't have that slight angle outwards in the center, nor do the shoulder "windows" angle back. The arms are just tiny black boxes without the fuel tanks there, and the waist and thighs don't have that cool design. It's just so flat an uninspired. It's bear minimum with no pizzazz.

I mean, yes, that is more like the original. But I do wonder if the stickers will look decent in real life.

I caved and picked this guy up on a whim and don't regret it. I find the vehicle mode frankly pretty excellent.

I accepted the two LG EX Scourges as "versions" of Scourge despite how different they were from the original. I can easily look at this guy the same way.

I think the biggest sin here it is that it is too close to the original to stand on its own. I'm planning on picking up the LED upgrades from Shockwaves Lab to give him a point of differentiation.

While I fully admit that this isn't the best representation of Scourge from RID, a sexy black Optimus Prime repaint is a sexy black Optimus Prime repaint.

Then again, I'm bound to like any figure with light piping this good.

Saw him in store and gave in. He’s great. Tbh I don’t mind the deco change. I get being upset and don’t blame anyone for not liking him but he’s a beaut.

Just got this guy and I got to agree, he’s such a beauty with that light piping.
I’m ok with his overly heroic proportions and even his shoulder pauldrons.
The trailer is meh and felt super light. The axe is rubbish. Glad I got it at a slightly cheaper price.
At this point I’ve come to the conclusion that nothing will beat the original Laser Prime mold, and I will just appreciate this toy for what it is.

That does help, though I want to see what Toyhax comes up with. I suspect their set will use some nicer foil-backed labels, but might also be a large sticker sheet and much pricier than this one. (Regardless, I rage whenever Toyhax puts up a new sheet on their site that ISN'T for Scourge. :) )

This label sheet is modest but seems to do the job, though I have no idea about the quality or durability of the stickers themselves, and whether trying to put a label over a thin edge or a complex surface is an exercise in futility or not.

That’s supposed to be an axe? Hahaha… I thought it was like supposed to be a bad shield when separated from the sword lol. Yeah not a huge fan. Jus have it put away. And the trailer is okay… I like it for vehicle display but tbh it’s ‘base/ gun’ mode is definitely unsatisfying tbh. I honestly like Star Saber’s more lol.

Even more weapons ideas for Legacy Scourge.

Ice blue blade from the Perfect Effect Dark Warrior set.

Sword from the Perfect Effect PE-10X Shadow Bat set.

Large trident configuration from the same Shadow Bat set. The deco really matches Scourge very well despite being an old set: pink, black, teal, silver, and tiny bits of red.

The handle parts are removable so closed hands (or nearly closed hands like the Laser OP mold) can still hold. This shows the other side of the trident.

I collect a lot of nemesis / scourge primes and I really like this one. It's looks to me like a cross between both of them.

The only thing that I would improve is make those gas tanks on the legs click into place somehow, they tend to collapse while handling the truck mode

i wonder if you can exchange parts between the prime version and this scourge to get the proper base color on the robot, and then add the teal and black where he need it...
