I found this arc to be really lacking and the payoff really wasn’t all that. I will say optimus eyes turning purple and him murdering shockwave was weird. It’s like he was possessed by Bay prime lol.

I’ll stick around to see how the starscream arc goes but if that doesn’t improve I may be done.

And Daniel kills off characters to keep the cast small. Not sure how I feel about that.

 

LOLLLL that first sentence reads like crazy fan fiction, and I’m surprisingly here for it! That said - haven’t read the issue yet so will hold my opinion till then.

Re: the deaths, I watched the Triple Takeover podcast and laughed when not only did DWJ say he killed Frenzy because one of the covers miscolored him and Rumble (“so then I killed Frenzy! Problem solved!”) but the hosts were cheering him on about it (basically “can you believe people still debate this after 40 years?”). I’m not sure what I think about that yet (although the fact he killed off one of his ultimate favorites - Warpath - does have my respect =) ). Definitely amplifies the “no one is safe” feeling, at least….

 

Gotta say, I think the arc was good but there are a lot of creative choices I'm not a fan of. Namely killing Ratchet and Shockwave.

Still, this issue was pretty good (I REALLY like the scene where, Optimus and Elita debate over destroying the Energon or not) and I think now that we know the Space Bridge was only active for what looks like a few hours, I guess it's more plausible that the Transformers haven't become public knowledge yet.

But I have to ask, what happened to Cliffjumper? It really sucks that after spending a whole issue teasing us with his fate, we gotta wait at least two months (Since based on solicitations the next issue is gonna be a Flashback focused on Starscream) to find out what happened to him.

I'm really getting the impression that Johnson just isn't good at playing the long game which is why I'm actually okay with him leaving at issue 24. I like his work of course but I'd like to get someone on board who does have the long game in mind.

And hopefully someone who's willing to resurrect characters.

I'm not sure Shockwave is dead. If Starscream can survive what he survived, Shockwave is going to pop up again later on. Ratchet might too. He's too big a character to be written off like he was, even if it's just for a while.

 

Would you please post all the spoilers as to what happened ?

 

In some stories, Starscream is portrayed as physically superior to Shockwave (Sunbow, Animated, Cyberverse, and maybe even IDW considering he outranks him, which he probably couldn't have done if he was weaker), so Starscream being capable of surviving some stuff Shockwave can't here isn't that far-fetched.

 

I really don’t know what to think of this issue. So much happened. Felt kinda jumbled at times.

But I think a large chunk of Cybertron falling into the ocean is probably what really kicks off things for the EU.

 

Doesn't the Duke mini take place 6 months after Duke's encounter with Starscream where the Transformers are still not common knowledge? How does that now work?

 

I don't have a single issue with them killing off characters as a method to keep the cast manageable since there's so many characters to utilize as is. As long as who's present is written well, I am content. It sucks when a favorite is killed off but it's not easy to juggle a huge cast.

Look forward to checking this out when I get the chance.

 

I still think the old Marvel comic did cast management best, especially under Furman:
All 'casualties' were in cold storage and could be used in the future if needed by the author, if not they were effectively dead.

Prime just flat out MURDERED Shockwave…

Elita is left behind… did Cliff get stuck with her? Elita is NOT happy with Optimus.

I still miss Ratchet and I keep hoping he’ll show up again…

 

Man.

That was intense. Shockwave is seemingly doneso, but after all the horrible things he's done... it's more than fully deserved. The whole stuff with Elita and Prime is genuinely tragic because I think they're both right, neither one is really 'wrong' in a sense... and those are always the most tragic conflicts, to me. I doubt Optimus chose to abandon his people in their hour of need, if the backstory is anything like how it was in the Marvel run... but I can't exactly blame Elita for being so jaded and believing he did after all she's had to endure.

Her desire to save her own home at the cost of Earth makes sense because unlike Optimus, she never got to bond with them like he did... So both their decisions make sense, even if the outcome means their relationship will be fractured after this. :/

Also Carly saving her buddy was super cute, and I'm very much onboard for whatever comes next.

Now.... did Prime briefly have his mind get overridden by Decepticon programming? Perhaps having that arm on him isn't as good an idea as it originally seemed at the time...

It's probably gonna be hard to hide from the world now... if that chunk of Cybertron is truly as big as it seems.

 

Would you please say if she wanted to take more energy from earth or just wanted to use earth energy that was all ready taken ? because was it like they could bring the power back to earth ?

 

She was pretty much willing to allow Earth to be drained in order for Cybertron to have another chance, which while understandable is also no different to what Shockwave and the Decepticons were going to do.

 

This could be an alternative choice as to what prime chose in the G1 cartoon Ultimate doom part 1.
Maybe we could see a civil war between the Autobots as well as the Decepticons.
If we do it may make sense to see Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots fighting against prime.
Also with the power transfer between earth and Cybertron could have it repaired both starscream and Megatron
And starscream flew to Cybertron before it was sent back to where it came from ?
