That's my point though, Hasbro knows Star Saber is obscure so they don't know it'll sell, this is aimed exactly at the tfw, siebertron, subreddit audience who know almost everything about Transformers and have been begging for a Star Saber since Prime Wars.

You have made up your mind well before posting this as you where only asking is not a true statement. You're stick is covered in shit from the pot you keep stirring.
Fact 1. You are not in charge, cry a river all you want, this is the price of admission if you don't like it, sorry.
Fact 2. You assume costs, anyone who has worked in factories knows operation costs, hell a few folks that do reviews have talked with company owners about doing runs in factories.
Fact 3. This is not the first toy in this line to be priced differently from the "scale" it fits in. SS Hot Rod, Kingdom Rodimus for example.
There is no gun against your head or balding fat man screaming at you to by it.
Yeah it sucks prices keep going up. That's life, we are here to talk about the merits of this toy, what it means for the brand, hopes going forward and what could be done differently with the figure. I'm sure you can find a group to talk economics with and get your posed questions about renting factory time answered.

 

This is what I was thinking too. Have the paint be put over plastic of the same color. That way you get the nice colors of paint, and the inevitable chips won't be super apparent

 

Victory Saber is in the same price range as Takara’s Volcanicus (188.99) and Abominus ($199.99) sets and when combined is around the same size as those figures. And he’s heavy on accessories and parts (especially if we hit multiple tiers).

 

This is the problem with people like you. You prescribe motives to someone's actions with no backing other than your personal biases. I asked the question about the size class of these toys because I enjoy engaging in discussion, especially with those that have a different view than me. It allows people to trade ideas and debate the merits of them. Then, we get someone like you: rolling up, insults flying, perpetuating the reputation this site has for having toxic forums. The fact that you assume I'm here to pick a fight says a lot about you.
It seems people go crazy when someone protests against the popular stance on something, and the more they push back, the more irrationally enraged everyone becomes. I suggest you do some self reflection to figure out why one person arguing against the price of a toy makes you so very angry.

 

There's a difference with those two. They're imports, so they cost more than domestic releases. Remember when masterpieces were released by Hasbro? They were much cheaper than their Takara counterparts. This, being a domestic release shouldn't follow the same pricing as a Takara Selects toys.

Also, because even debating this seems to ignite tensions, I'd like to put out a disclaimer than I am in no way coming at you aggressively with this post. Just discussing.

You do understand that when hasbro made MP figures they were cheaper because they made way more for US retail. The reason they dont make normal MPs is the same reason why this isn't retail. Theres no retail confidence in it.
