Devil's Advocate: combined Saber is eye to eye to Siege Jetfire, a Commander Class fig in price and size.

I get the desire to want to be positive, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging the reality of a situation. I'm still backing it, even though it's clearly overpriced. I wonder if some people are defending the cost so aggressively because they're afraid it won't get fully backed if people start to realize what they're actually getting. I want this thing to get backed, but it it fails on its own merits, that's nobody's fault but Hasbro's.

Exactly. So why does this set cost more than TWO Jetfires?

Smaller production line, which is also why 3P also charges more for their Transformers than official.

All three examples you just gave are figures that exist somewhere between two size classes and Hasbro just said "meh" and bumped them up to the higher of the two. Victory Leo isn't even that. He was clearly designed as a Voyager, but people think he's worth three times that price on his own.

So it's not because they're Commanders then, right?

Jesus, we're still doing the "Value is determined by how tall the toys" is stuff?

Thought we had moved past that already.

I dont see how anybody can say it's 'clearly overpriced' when there's no point of comparison.

And no, you can compare to a bundle of retail figures, because this isn't a retail figure.

No it's quite the same plus difference in production. Voyager size Leo and "leader" Star Saber who is definitely more expensive but sold without retail profit margins. When expecting way lower sale you have to increase the price to offset loses.

If size is all that matters, then this clearly the best retail toy: Screenshot_20211005-162859_Samsung Internet.jpg

I'm not too stressed about how many more orders it gets, so please don't attribute that fear to me when I say this:

"Clearly overpriced"? When people can post price breakdowns showing how closely the retail prices for figures of the sizes included in this set add up to the total price of the HasLab VS set, I don't think "clearly" means what you think it means. If there's this much room for debate, I don't think it's at all "clear."

You're welcome to consider this set overpriced. Others are welcome to disagree. I don't think it's fair to assume that those who disagree must be doing so out of fear of some undesirable outcome should they not rush to Hasbro's defense.

The complexity of the two doesn't really seem comparable. A closer comparison would be to Commander Sky Lynx since he's actually 2 figures. But even then, the separate parts didn't have a robot mode and limited accessories.

the price point is about right for the full 20,000 units at tier 3, plus shipping costs.

I think the price is OK. Aside from getting two Nice figures all their gimmicks are surviving and in a way that makes the overall figures look so good. My way of thinking is that going back to the potp vote where star saber was one of the contenders, I always thought that the optimal optimus figure was designed to be star saber, just for the way the smaller robot combined in both vehicle and robot. Can you imagine how compromised that would have been? Also looking back to how the legends ginrai and god bomber turned out, great figures but again compromised and not all of the gimmicks (the cab robot) survived. I'm pretty happy overall with the price as everything's there. I'd be happier again if we reached tier 3 for the micromasters and if somehow seawatch and fixit magically appeared ina tier 4
