Well, someone wanted some "extras" for a scene, and borrowed animation models (that weren't already in the scene) from elsewhere. Unfortunately, that "someone" wasn't really familiar with why those particular models were not good choices. Hence, animation errors. In this case, it sounds like the animation was done by someone who was familiar with the characters and wanted to put something in there as a treat for the fans who remembered G1. Hmm.
