I think they’re called that because the logo seems to be the same one as the Cyberverse Sharkticons and Quintesson box sets which I believe were also Target Exclusive.

 

I remember, when these first came out, that some misguided souls stated these figures would never be released together by Hasbro.

I hope the Skywarp and Thundercracker set are billed as Villains of Cybertron too! That's funny!

 

I hope that both the Clones and Skywarp and Thundercracker come to ToysRUs in Canada. I really want to get my hands on them

Point being, it's not like there's a lot of movie designs to do (especially with them already doing some of them) and a movie/season 3 theme is the safe bet for part 3 to tie in with unicrons release (brand synergy and all that jazz)

The “Cybertronian Villians” bit seems funny because neither the clones nor the seekers have been portrayed as threats willing of being called “villains”. That title belongs with characters like Thunderwing and Megatron.

 

Ehhhhh.

All Autobots are heroes. All Decepticons are villains.

Also, Hasbro has been using the "heroes" word to refer to anyone with a name for over 20 years. Heroes of Cybertron. Robot Heroes. Rescue Heroes.

Heroes and Villains aren't high bar labels. The newest and least accomplished recruit gets labeled a "Hero" or "Villain".

The neutral Paradrons and Generic Air Warriors get labeled as "Heroic" or "Evil".

By comparison, Thundercracker and Skywarp have enemy deathcounts.

 

They're bad guys. Hence, villains.

I'm excited for this set, and I get that there's probably a shipping/dimensions reason to put them in bot mode...but from a marketing perspective it's interesting they'd pack two identical bots in their bot mode and use the art to sell the beast modes.

 

Dang, I was hoping there would be more 5mm ports or they’d have weapons or something new (other than the paint).

 

It appears nothing is new as it's the Takara deco version.

 

That, itself, would make these "new" in the US.

They probably will. It seems like the "villains of cybertron" branding is just "Target Exclusive " at this point. Just like the Cyberverse Quintesson and Sharkticons which were also target exclusives. My guess is that target is just getting decepticons as their exclusives and will continue to brand them is Villains of Cybertron. I think it's less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if MPM-10 was also a "Villain of Cybertron."
