I would be here for a Mystery Machine. I think Scooby turned 50 recently or will soon. I would say it is by far one of the most recognizable cartoon vehicles in the United States.

My proposal would be the Phantom Shadow (Giggling Green Ghost) as a robot mode:

... The colors would sync up well and there could be a "haunted Mystery Machine" write up, with a pack-in Scooby gang and crook. Alternatively, the crook could be the Mystery Machine's Titan Master with an alternate one included.

I like the idea of a humanoid/canine reverse-Duocon as well. Pack in a Scrappy BotBot who transforms into a box of Scooby Snacks.

Next would be the Impala from Supernatural. The show's going on 15 soon and I kid you not once crossed over with Scooby. It's really just a cool looking vehicle that would make a good bot.

I had an idea for an Optimus TARDIS, and Autivot versions of the New Dalek Paradigm with different robot forms. Bumblebee from the yellow Dalek (duh), Cliffjumper from the red one, Ratchet from the white one, Ironhide from the orange one, Cliffjumper from the red one, and maybe Arcee from the blue one. That might be a bit ambitious for a line like this.

The Winnebago from Breaking Bad would be darkly funny, as would the signature mismatched doors car from Better Call Saul.

I’m curious what Hasbro’s limits are. Ghostbusters — at least the first movie — is a lot less child friendly than TFs typically are. But the Ecto-1 is associated with a lot of childhood bliss and wonder.

Not sure how much you could expect Mattel to play ball. They’ve sublicensed MOTU a lot and there are rumors they sold the rights but licensed them back and kept copyright/trademark to toy designs. But I’d love He-Man’s Windraider and Battle Ram.

I’ll be perfectly honest about this and Marty McPrime. I’m one of the people here who dislikes crossover figures that turn into characters from the crossover franchise (ie. X-Wing Luke) and is skeptical about established TFs being shoehorned into other properties (ala Takara’s various crossovers).

For me, Ectotron being a new character was how you do this. I want the crossover character to stand next to my Optimus and they can’t do that if they ARE Optimus.

Hate to be the one to throw cold water on this thread, but...

Ghostbusters is a popular franchise right now with a new movie on the way. Things like Back to the Future are not. Turtles would work (though a licensing hassle I would think) but just shoehorning in a nostalgic 80s brand is not a good business plan.

I doubt that Hasbro put this figure in a G1 themed box to appeal to the fans of the reboot and not the fans of the original 80's franchise.

I don’t think a new Ghostbusters movie was on the horizon when this was planned. These things take many months.

I think it’s far likelier that this was planned to target adult collectors in the geek industrial complex of Loot Crate buyers and ThinkGeek shoppers based on the aesthetics, the price, and the Gamestop/Online exclusivity.

A $50 Voyager that was likely licensed after GB 2016 disappointed and before Reitman showed up, sold at a nerdcave outlet strikes me like it’s aimed more squarely at the kind of adult who has strong opinions (pro or con) about Wil Wheaton than it is at tapping into what’s hot with kids.

Sure, but even when nostalgia is a factor (Transformers, hello) Hasbro have proved they never ever bank on it as the only selling factor.

Takara do, and it’s bitten into their business over the last decade.

I've actually been thinking about this recently. You could have Astrotrain as a shuttlecraft.

    KITT
    General Lee
    Batmobile 66
Batman: Brave and the Bold had a 50s/66 style Batmobile that turned into a robot. Exactly zero toys from Mattel of this. SMH. I would love Hasbro get the Batmobile license to do this one too.

I’m with you on this. I’d like to see iconic vehicles as their own characters and not as robot versions of human characters or as established Transformers characters.

I was never interested in any of the Marvel or Star Wars crossover TF toys for this reason.

Ectotron does it well, and that’s what I’d like to see more of.
