I think they're old Guido art.

I like the incorporating of toy features to the Cartoon designs.

-ZacWilliam, and he's a good artist.

Optimus and Wheeljack were drawn for Dreamwave back when they published Transformers comics. They're in the DW house style which basically makes them squat and look bulky.

I love how Optimus Prime's vehicle mode is based on the toy, but looks less like the actual truck it's based on than the toy itself.

I love how the truck has tiny square windows, and the sections that become Optimus's arms are recognizable as such. Robots in piss-poor disguise!

Ironhide, Wheeljack, Ratchet and Bumblebee were IDW promo prints and/or variant covers by Guido back during the Infiltration/Escalation era. I actually like the toy/animation model hybrids.

And apparently, so did Chee Yang Ong, because he used them as a reference several years later for the Bumblebee mini.

Optimus is from the Dreamwave MTMTE and drawn by Don Fig in the (shitty) style of Pat Lee, Jazz is from the Shout Factory DVD releases (and by Don Fig in a much better style), the rest are early IDW art by Guido Guidi. And last I checked, all but Prime are the main images for the TFWiki for their respective characters.

It does look like the toy. I guess some details got lost when translating it into toy form and then onto paper.

    Seriously, this is just... wow.

I assume whichever artist did this (it was obviously not Don; also note how Optimus's robot chest doesn't even remotely match the toyetic truck mode) was also responsible for Ravage's "cassette" alternate mode.

This artist used the toys as references, but... somehow ended up exaggerating their toyetic features.

No favorite, I like them all!
GREAT stuff to use as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of transformers G1 in 2014.

How about these G1 images? I just found my old comics collection at my parents house and just gave them to my 6 year old. He has been watching DVDs of the old cartoon all weekend...

You just reminded me that I have to find that issue 21 again....no idea where I put it, but it's probably in my old computer room. I had Rob Paulsen sign my copy awhile back. Great guy!

The truck still looks cool with all those articulation seams. I always assumed those disappear when Transformers convert.

I would think so, considering she officially appeared in the official cartoon. ;)

Would that truck mode even be street legal, what with the extremely limited sight for a potential driver? Tiny windows with massive separations between them?
