    It goes:

    Series 1
    Series 2
    Movie
    Series 3

    Then either:

    Rebirth

    or

    Headmasters
    Masterforce
    Victory

It basically picks up 20 years after the end of season 2, which was 1985. So basically, it follows season 2, part 2 if you go by the Rhino boxsets.

Thats the Metrodome season 1 set Im guessing.
    And the order of them are;

Prime Head box - Season 1
Autobot Logo box - Season 2 part 1
Decepticon Logo box - Season 2 part 2

    Movie

Galvatron Head box - Seasons 3 and 4

Unless you got the very large box with all those designs on which has all of g1 in it.

Season 2, Volume 6. There's a big storytelling gap between the two, though, because the movie jumps twenty years into the future.

The movie doesn't specifically pick up from any episode in the second part of season 2. B.O.T. was the last episode in season 2, but again, the movie doesn't specifically pick up from this episode or anything. The writers left a 20 year gap and basically left it up to the fans to speculate on what happened. All we knew is that in those 20 years, the Decepticons took over Cybertron and the Autobots were pushed back to Cybertron's two moons.

The Takara series is supposed to take place right after the Return of Optimus Prime. Rebirth was made for North America and Europe to follow the return of Prime but Takara wanted to go a different direction, and thus came up with their Headmasters series. So, you can say Rebirth and Headmasters are parallel series rather than one being ahead or behind the other.

Has there ever been an attempt to fill in that gap by Hasbro or anything? It would definitely be an interesting story for IDW to pick up, since they did the movie adaptation and whatnot.

Actually, this is pretty much what Dreamwave was trying to do. The comics were set in present day, which at the time was the year 2002. At the end of their G1 vol.1 issue 1, there was an article remembering the " '99 Ark II Tragedy", which occured in 1999. It was a pretty good attempt to bridge season 2 and the movie, but they never made it right up to 2005.

Pretty good but it really wouldnt have fit in after season 2.Most of the season 2 bots and cons were not on earth yet in the Dreamwave universe.

And the back story for the fem bots was completly original.

I would love to see a comic fill the 20 year gap and remain in continuity.

Anyway to answer the original posters question.

The last episode of season 2 to air was "B.O.T.". The 1986 movie was set 20 years after that and following the movie was the season 3 5 part opener "Five faces of Darkness".

The original G1 serries from Marvel/Sunbo ended with "the Rebirth".

The Takara collection takes place after "The Return of Optimus Prime".

The Takara serries were made for the Asain market originaly and do not include "the Rebirth" into its continuity.

Takara was not pleased with the direction Hasbro was going with the TF brand and the Headmasters in particular. They felt that there were to many cartoons on the Japanese tv that featured giant robots controled by humans or human like characters so they created their own concept for the Headmasters and Targetmasters.

Takara's Headmaster serries featured smaller robots that became the pilots to life-less "transector" bodies.

Ironiclly, the follow up serries to Headmasters "Masterforce" featured giant robots that were controled by human characters.

unfortunately the last episode of season 2 is b.o.t. Though aerial assault is really close to the end and extremely good. I wish they had ended season two on some kind of cliffhanger that would have lead in to the movie.

Kind of like scramble city. At least they recovered people who had'nt seen the movie with five faces of darkness somewhat.

    (edited do to fact checking.)

Why is B.O.T.'s production code 64? Which one is 65?
