After watching the old Sector Seven videos for the 2007 movie I watched two things Cloverfield and a fan film called Transformers Interstellar Escape from Earth....and I didnt know how badly I wanted a found footage Transformers film. What do you think about this idea?
People already complain about not being able to tell what’s going on in the movies and how we’re constantly seeing the battles from the human perspective and not seeing all the action. Do you really think a found footage film, where all of these would be tenfold, would be any better? I wouldn’t watch it
While I doubt a full film with the found footage method would work, perhaps segments or a mini-series to advertise / hype up the film would be fun.
The main problem the films have with bayformers at least is that the Transformers are treated as props more than characters. Found footage generally only gives glimpses at whatever is supposed to be recorded (or in Paranormal Activity, just a bunch of clever parlor tricks - I guess, I've never actually seen them). We want MORE Transformers screen time, not less.
i'd be fine with a found footage segment but an entire film would be difficult, i wont say it's impossible for it to work but you'd have to have someone really creative with how they handle it
I really don't like found footage films so I'd be super against this idea. But then again, I'm probably too big of a fan to skip it if it were to actually be made and released.
... The idea isn't without merit, given the franchise is supposed to be about the robots hiding. Just not as a movie. I could go for another marketing campaign like the S7 one. Hopefully with an actually good movie attached. It could also work as an intro to a TV series, with our new main human coming across found footage type stuff on the 'net and deciding research further, accidentally getting caught up in the war. But DEFINITELY not a full movie.
“shaky cam” has been in movies literally since it was possible for a cam op to hold the camera and film by himself. It can create a sense of uneasy tension or nervous energy, and adds a sort of hand made intimacy to a shot. It’s not a gimmick. It’s a technique and every movie you’re likely to have seen that was made by professionals since the ‘30s or ‘40s has used it. Like all techniques it’s possible to use wrong, like when Zach Snyder filmed an entire Superman movie that way for some reason. But it can also be used very, very right. For instance, if one character is filmed handheld and the other one is filmed on sticks or via Steadicam, you’re telling the audience who has the power and solid footing in the scene. Or how in Saving Private Ryan, Spielberg used it in the battle scenes to give them a documentary feel. Complaints Shaky cam and CGI and whatever else ruining movies are just silly. Everything has its place
I don't see how looking like it was filmed by a bunch of tweens in their backyard can make something look "artful". Amateurish and unprofessional? Most certainly. Sorry, not Shaky Cam, Found Footage. THAT'S what I meant was a gimmick. Dunno why I said shaky-cam. *headscratch* Shaky-cam is still crap though.
