I was watching a few of the DC direct-to-video animated specials, and that got me thinking of the transformers being a great candidate for that, with the many fun stories from idw, marvel, etc that will never see the light of day due to the Bay movies sucky story lines and the tv series are appropriately kid based...

So this pool is a simple one... Would you buy and support a straight-to-video line of transformers animated movies, assuming the production quality is similar to the DCU line like Justice League Doom, etc...

I think that the question should be less 'would we buy them' than can Hasbro get out of their own way long enough to get this going.

Making straight to home movies based on the spotlights would be a good way to start. A self contained episode with minimal knowledge of TFs needed to get going.

I swear, one of these threads needs to be made into a sticky, it seems like we have a new "direct to video TF films?" thread every few weeks.....

On the subject though, yeah, I'd love some of them. I think that All Hail Megatron and Last Stand of the Wreckers would translate well into this format.

I'd support it only for the TV series. There's a lot of gaps they could fill with say G1, Unicron Trilogy, Prime, BW/BM, etc. They could also make a unique follow-up to stand alone series like RiD or Animated. In doing so, they could try to get the same voice actors/production companies involved. I just can't support it being done for the comic stories. DC Comics has soured me as a fan with all these unconnected 90 minute off shoots based on comics after a solid 14 year run with the DCAU. It's just too disappointing to me and I'd hate for Transformers to slowly erode on that path too.

I would at least watch them, whether on PPV or by buying the DVD. If it was a story that seemed more interesting to me, it would be the DVD purchase.

I can go for it. :)  It'd be a great way to cater to the older fans if they adapt stories like Last Stand of the Wreckers and perhaps Windblade too.

If done they should do "Spotlight" style and pull stories from different universes...could even be used to fill in some blanks from different continuies...

The moment this happens, is the moment that the franchise gets the liberty it needs. These Direct to Video films can have a broad spectrum and can appeal to different fans of different continuities and give us more creative voice casts.

    Yes.
i don't care if the first 4 direct-to-video suck as well. there are more direct-to-video than film/movie.

Look at DC, we have an endless parade of direct-to-video superhero movies that mostly cover batman or superman. but also show us a bunch of under used heros as well. We could finally get a Dinobot movie, then a wreckers movie, then something on cybertron, then a heart of steel movie.

Who cares if you don't like any of those idea something you would like will come.

I wish Hasbro would sick it's money into that rather than the movies.

Maybe if we're lucky we could also get movies that either bridge gaps between certain timelines with bridging G1 with BW so we can explore what happened to the old cast of G1 and how the transistion came to be or make conclusions for shows that never got a proper end like Animated even though with Animated's case it would be more episodic.

I'd like any of the following:

    Dreamwave G1

    Beast Wars The Gathering

    Marvel UK's Galvatron arc

    MTMTE

    LSOTW

The ROTF prequel where Megatron encounters The Fallen

It could be something new. Just as long as it's well written.
