That's the stuff. It does come in other consistencies, though. It comes real fine or clumpy, like that. I've got enough of it laying around here to know.

That's gonna look awesome when you finish.

I got my first shipment of steep slopes in yesterday, and have already used them all. So, minor progress.

While I waited for my slopes to arrive, I built the colums that will be the tunnel entrance stands through the mountain. Ironhide striking a pose to help me make sure it's gonna be tall enough to have a modern deluxe walk through it.
    IMG_0483.jpg

Once the slopes showed up I started building up a bit more and doing some more fill work behind the grays with white to start working out the overall structure of the mountain.
    IMG_0485.jpg

This is going to take, literally, millions of bricks. I've got three shipments of bricks scheduled to arrive today, a couple Saturday, and one more on Monday. I'm guessing with all of those I might be able to get another foot or so skyward. Maybe. Depending on how the build works out.

This reminds me of Lava down a volcano. 20200716_143410.jpg

I just put on the dirt layer. (I swear these photos make it look brighter then it actually is. It's actually about 2 times darker.) 20200716_144829.jpg

That looks incredible. It's really coming together, now. Has the paint dried yet?

Thank you. The paint hasn't dried yet. I'm asking the next step because I like to plan things ahead.

I understand. The best thing to do would let the paint dry at least over night, if not for a few days so it can cure totally. What have you decided to do next? Are you going to put the fake foliage down?

    There's probably a few ways...

I was considering green sand (on glue)... it would give it texture and bit "smallish"...

For trees, I found some plastic "plant branches" at a dollar store that I'll be cutting and adjusting and believe that will look great. I'll probably use some air-dry clay to make the trunks and make them bottom heavy to stand, which I'll paint.

I've looked so many places (brick and online) for such trees that would be at the right scale, and not cost an arm and leg and didn't find a single one.

Scarlet knight? I'd consider hitting it with some lighter colored browns with a dry-brushing to give the color some variation. Although, depending on what you do with your grass and foliage, it may end up not mattering that much to you.

I hope I can find some tiny trees.

    I plan on doing that.

This is what I found at dollar stores, and actually the best I was able to find... just to give you an idea.

*sigh*.. if this could be my full time job.. so much to do.. I'd never be bored should I could retire tomorrow.

I've been doing a LOT of touch up on my base so that I can take almost all the panels out to do my pictures... the new chapters are coming, but so much to do to get my sets done "right"...

Drybrushing is complete. (It's still wet.) 20200716_175435.jpg

I'm done for the day. 20200716_184759.jpg

Is there a way to apply grass to the sides without it looking weird?

One thing you could try, is putting trees on the side, but maybe making them smaller in the front and taller in the back, that way the ground on the mountain could be somewhat covered. Another thing, you could probably coat it evenly with whatever grass you decide to use. You could dry brush some green paint on there, in a small patch just to see how it looks.

Those actually look good. I may have to give the craft section a glance the next time I'm in Walmart, since they sell similar looking stuff.

    That's a really good idea.
I had that thought. I'll test it.

The green drybrush was definitely the right choice. (The light green is wet paint.) 20200717_082625.jpg
