Thinking the same thing. Seeing as how this 30 second Chevrolet TV spot is not a $200 million, 2 hour long summer movie blockbuster, I'd say that what we got was pretty good. Now, I may not be a professional visual effects artist (maybe one day...), I still like to think that I (and many others) have an eye for things like this, and I couldn't tell where the change was. I watched the video over and over again to see if I could spot the frame where it from being a "real" car to ILM's CG model (and vice versa), and I couldn't. But I'm sure that with closer scrutiny one could point them out. Well, when he transforms back into the car, it could've been when that one guy runs in front, but that still would've gone from "CG car" to "live-action car with CG enhancements" to "live-action car". Using cuts and people running in frame, shaking the camera, zooming in-and-out of focus (to distract the viewer's eyes) are extremely common for things like this; almost every movie featuring VFX does this to some extent. (Plus, it made it feel more "real", as if it actually happened.) Still great stuff. Plus, what we'll see in the actual movie will no doubt overshadow this and make it look like crap. Woot, ILM! Overall, I was very impressed with the quality present in this simple commercial.* Alright, Bay, we need to see some on-screen transformations like that in the movie! :)

But as for the video in general, I loved it. Funny, fantastic, great visual effects, and a very good promotion for both Chevrolet and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Now, if they can just give us a similar promotion for Ratchet and Ironhide, I'd be good. :D

*Stephen Sommers, please take note. ;)

I don't think it's really accurate to compare with that old Bumblebee render. There's something funny going on with the perspective.

There are differences, but he was never that lanky in the movie.

I'm pretty sure 30 sec. spots don't have a 300 million dollar budget either.

After two years here I'm still waiting for a positive post from you.  It's supposed to be a fun commercial. He's in a padded costume and he landed on a table. :)

    Volt?

This is America, land of loud and proud muscle cars. You want something puny... move to Europe.

I know, but the proportions looked different in the movie to how they look in that render.

To give you another example of problems with that render, the doors did meet in the middle of his back on the design for the previous movies.

... and it's about time they did a toy that matched this, closest so far was the old deluxe.

:lol  Land of the compacts? j/k The point is, America = muscle cars, and I don't want that to go away at all!!!

I'm glad they showed all of the transformation both ways. That was nice!

no, but it is a land. In America-land, the cars are big, and so is everything else.

I know, eh? It was nice to see him transforming from both modes. Now THIS is what I always imagined a real-life Transformer transforming like. I really like what Bay had in mind for that concept. Not clunky parts, not streaks of alien light masking the actual transformation *cough*BeastMachines*cough* (nothing against Beast Machines, by the way). But hundreds of pieces all going somewhere; enough complexity, but also based just enough in reality and physics. :)  Way to go, ILM (and Bay)!

I was just waiting to name drop some of those beautiful exotics! :D
Agreed for the transformation, that always annoyed me, specially the constant floating/spinning of the camera every time they transform.

On my wishlist for DOTM I just want to see a nice clear transformation, with no cheating. In slow-motion and 3D. Just something really satisfying where everything fits together.

Yeah, but how may people can own a $150,000+ Lambo versus the Camaro, Challenger, or Mustang for under $50,000? :D
