Damn I thought Warrior class were 7 inches. Not paying $15 for a halfed ass Shockwave that's the same height as FOC Shockwave.

Did that 3P FOC Shockwave ever go on sale?

I feel like there is a downward spiral of quality going on with most of the toys that aren't MP's since CW. They are getting so hollow and light yet the $ isn't vastly changing. Call me what you want....I just love the brand and I don't feel like buying much anymore....glad there's 3P.

You do understand that by today's standards that same GF Convoy would cost close to 50-70 USD right? As opposed to the 35 USD it was sold for originally?
Materials and labor costs have gone up, to stay competitive in the market, hasbro has to make cuts to where it can to keep figure price at the same price and maintain durability & quality.
Otherwise they price themselves out of the market entirely because very few could afford the figures.

There's an old retail adage. A customer walks into a store with an extra 20 dollar bill. The goal is to get that 20$. Material that stays under 20$ is more likely to move than material over that price. This is why we have more deluxe and scout class figures in any given line than voyagers or leader class figures. They stay under 20$. If Hasbro goes over that mark, then it becomes a "sought out purchase" which isn't as frequent as under 20 impulse buys. As you raise the price of an item, the consumer becomes less quick to purchase and thinks more on it.

So comparing toys of yesteryear when prices were different and more economically feasible to prices today(especially after we went through a recession, and are starting to look like another is about to happen) and expecting that same material at the same cost, business and economics don't work that way.

Japanese G1. The animes they made after G1 that had Dai Atlas, starsaber, Masterforce, pretenders, etc.

I think i'll give this cartoon a chance.
I think they revealed these ahead of the convention because they knew our reaction would be mixed.
I'm happy they're laying the groundwork to permanently establish Megatron as a tank and Optimus as a flat nosed truck.
I'm happy Megatron looks like MEGATRON. Not as excited with Optimus bot mode but eh.

Speaking of other series nods merged into this:
Bumblebee's warrior class figure has his TF Animated Stingers! That's awesome!

I think the way I would describe this is comparing POTF2 to the R1 and TLK toys. They're both 5 POA but the presentation is just cheaper in every way. The paint work is sloppier, the sculpts are less dynamic, and somehow they cost more.

In much the same way, the parts count of most 4-inch GoBots is very low (none of them have elbows and very few have any movement below the waist), yet they do not show it as glaringly as these figures. That is, I think, really sad. It's like they went out of their way to make them look bad. The visibly hollow parts and clip-on wheels absolutely don't help fight that perception. Optimus's cab looks like they didn't even try. Starscream's legs scream "we ran out of paint budget halfway through." And after Shockwave, I don't hear want to hear anybody crack wise about Loco or Tank sitting down to convert. I get that this isn't really aimed at collectors, no matter what some phony-baloney "hey, doodz, remember that tape deck guy?!" hipster at Gizmodo says, but they still look pretty lazy. If they can't turn a robot into a plausible vehicle, they need to work from the other direction. And this is coming from somebody that actually liked much of the warrior class lineup from RiD 2015.

I've seen that Second Chance Shockwave trickle out but nothing else yet. Planet X has shown off their FOC Shockwave though so a few months for more info on that.

No offense, but I think you're misunderstanding the word generic. I'm not saying they're not cartoon accurate, I'm saying they're about as bland or average a rendition of the G1 characters as you can get. Look, in RID2015, we at least got a green and black Grimlock, and a muscled up, more black heavy rendition of Bee. An Optimus with turquoise rims on his tires that also transformed into a complete tractor trailer. These designs are at best slightly retouched versions of their G1 selves. I'm sure a handful of people who literally cannot get enough of the same thing will be pleased, but I count on my Generations toys giving me my slavishly accurate G1 fix, and I want the kids show to throw me some fresh meat...

Ok. I've always been meaning to watch Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory, but I'm currently 2/3 of the way through the Unicron Trilogy and I plan on finishing that first. But before I even start watching Cybertron, I have to finish Neon Genesis Evangelion. For whatever reason, I keep starting new shows before I'm done with the other ones.

Really, it's something that happens during every single era of Transformers. Even these supposed golden ages of Animated and Cybertron. I guess it has to do with being the next TV show we're getting, people will want toys from that series, stuff like that. And since we get Generations, people wonder why it can't be across the board.

Because G1 was first, is what most of the people here are comfortable with and familiar with, so everything should be like it except when they do it wrong.

People were hoping for "improvement", I suppose. Personally, I got a few figures, but finally decided it wasn't really for me. Which is fine. I'm not the target audience. But a lot of us in the TF fandom are used to getting articulated figures for characters we see on TV, and we almost instantly want a physical representation of our favorite. After not giving TFs as much attention, finding characters in games, TV shows, and anime I like that don't get such luxuries, I've started to try and accept the fact I won't always get that... but I'll try and take advantage of it if one does come along.

Well, G1 is a thirty year old toyline, and articulation wasn't really as big a deal then as it is now. I'm not sure anyone is comparing it to the G1 toyline.

I'm admittedly going to put some of the blame for this on the article quoted in the original post. Whoever wrote the article obviously hasn't kept up with Transformers a whole lot, and isn't aware of the Generations line and such, and for some reason seems to think these would be good for collectors, when they aren't. It honestly was annoying me at first that Hasbro was even trying that angle at all, 'til I realized it was just an article some guy wrote.

Because we can't leave well-enough alone. Or we do have some interest in it. Or we just like being angry. I'll be honest I am sort of enjoying the "fireworks", if you will, but I've ultimately come to realize this is just for kids, not me. And for some it may be more of a parental thing than a collector thing, though they're likely in the minority.

This line isn't for me, the original gizmodo article was badly written and not very well-informed, there were a lot of misunderstandings...

And see y'all in a few years for when we start the carousel all over again.

I hope the cyberverse cartoon isn't written by the same crew that worked on the Machinima series. I get the feeling Hasbro started this initiative because they realized the Michael Bay movies didn't repeat the TF1 success 4 times afterwards and they wanted something to push toy sales and take the place of RID2015.

If this line was catered to my demographic(clearly it isn't) I would be very disappointed. There are some like Ultimate Prime where I see wasted potential. That could've been a lot better, same with Megatron.

However this isn't my line, POTP is. Hopefully we get a few select mainline Generations figures that are based on the Cyberverse designs(I like most of them, their current toys aren't doing it for me).

Some of you need to chill the hell out, acting as if this is replacing the MP line.

Curious to see where this line goes, if it's like RID'15 at all, then they'll start working in characters other than "the big 4" and other immediate A-tier characters as time goes in. I'm hoping the Barricade rumors were true and we see him on display this weekend as well!

From this batch though, for sure just cherry picking like I did with RID. Right now only sold on Shockwave, I'm satisfied with all the other versions of the Prime/Bee/Megs/Screamer/Grims that I already have from Classics, etc.

For me, it is because things were not always like this. We had almost 3 decades of good quality shows and toys, and I DO NOT MEAN JUST TRANSFORMERS. During these 3 decades, story writing improved, we usually get better toys each year, and then in the last couple of years everything just came crashing down. I do not understand at all. Are good story writing, and good quality toys a thing of the past now?

We went from Adam West Batman to Batman: The Animated Series to Justice League: Action?

We went from Generation 1 Optimus Prime to G2 Laser Optimus Prime to God Fire Convoy to Warrior Class Optimus Prime?

We went 5 Points of Articulation back to fully articulated action figures back to 5 Points of Articulation again?

We went from using Stickers to paint and back to using Stickers again?

I find this very hard to accept. Are the days where companies just want to write good stories and make good quality toys gone? Are good story writing relegated to comic books now? Are good quality toys relegated to collectors' item now?

Maybe because of the high production costs, we cannot have toys like Galaxy Convoy in a main toy line anymore. Fine. However, Animated, Prime, and Generations are examples of good toy lines where both adults and children can enjoy.

Maybe I do not understand how children these days play with their toys. When I was a child, I would make my toys go on adventures so it makes no sense for me to want 2 toys of the same character unless the character used specialised costumes to suit different missions, or there is an upgrade. It makes no sense for me to have the same character in the same form in different sizes. How does one even play with an entire collection of Bumblebees? I understand Legends Class for younger children and people on a budget, but the rest I cannot understand.

The toy aisles of today is boring. Instead of finding a toy of a new character, reading its biography, and then excitedly awaiting, and speculating how and when that character would appear in the cartoon, we get another fucking Bumblebee.

has anyone considered that the Generations style Evergreen Bumblebee box we saw might be indicatative of a \"Generations\" sort of line in addition to the \"Cyberverse\" line since their using the same design? Or maybe that was just the three step box.

Either way if the show is charming enough like RID was I\'ll collect it in some degree. Idk if I\'ll go balls to the wall since these designs are good enough but not wowing me either and lack the freshness RID\'s designs had.

I don't think companies do, either, given the rise of mobile app games.
