That's true. They nerfed the sculpt and articulation for the jet mode to be very sleek.

I did see a custom painted up as a Macross jet and the dark grey paint made an incredible difference in my opinion.

 

Dang...I know Transformers was with Marvel and all that but just once I'd like to see a crossover with DC instead. There was that one pitched idea for a TF/DC crossover that never came into fruition and what a missed opportunity that was. Marvel already got a whole crappy line of crossover figures plus that IDW comic a few years back. But for those who are excited for an X-Men figure, I hope you all enjoy it like I enjoy Ectotron. There's a lot of potential yet for the Collaborative line and I'm excited to see what comes next.

 

Given that Maverick wasn't a redeco or retool, my guess is this won't be either. BUT...

the figures that WERE retools were BETTER, so I kind of HOPE this one IS.

EDIT: I get that Maverick was about getting an accurate jet mode though, and maybe it's a G2 Cyberjet pretool.

 

As long as its an actual robot head and not a robot body with a superhero head. An ROTF Jetfire retool might be cool.

 

12 year old me would be jumping for joy at the prospect of this.

40 year old me is just as excited, but jumping would cause aches and pains I'd rather not have.

Serious this could be really cool...I'll look forward to seeing more.

 

I'm in. I just hope it's better than Maverick. He's so awful I cancelled. No way I'm giving them $50.00 for... *that*.

 

I hope it transforms into an original character. A nice choice for a crossover alt mode. Altough I'm pretty out-blackbirded unless Hasbro produces a Skyquake toy.

 

My reaction to this reveal:

Yes, I know. "That's a JoJo reference." Seriously, Marvel and Transformers are crossing-over (Crossovering? Seriously, what is the present tense form of crossover?) again. That is cool.

 

It might be like Maverick in that it's it's own mold rather than a weird engineering cousin of another. I don't know many figures that effectively lend their shape to a Blackbird without some other compromise. I don't think they'd do Snapdragon as the triple changing and the Headmaster are too busy for a crossover, it'll just muddy the waters and get in the way of enjoying it for the crossover. SS Jetfire is too odd in robot mode and the combining gimmick would get in the way like Snapdragon's gimmicks.

Crossing over is present tense.

For Ectotron they took a combiner torso and reshelled it into the Ecto-1 and didn't include any combiner compatibility. These aren't the typical, simple repaints we are used to. Kingdom Cyclonus is also another potential candidate.

 

I mean, it doesn't really help it considering that the Robot Mode looks a lot like Cybertron Thundercracker.

 

So... Cyclops visor, Wolverine Claws, Storm kibble cape, Beast feet, Cerebro head, Gambit staff... Yeah? What else?

What'll be interesting is that *if* it is the Blackbird then the focus is going to likely be on the bot mode. Because a Blackbird is a Blackbird. We've gotten figures based on one before. Unlike Gigawatt and Ectotron, who had the appeal of being fictional vehicles that we hadn't seen get figures before.

I think that is why, in part, people were less receptive to Maverick. We've gotten lots of transforming jets before, so when they saw the bot mode it was a make or break and for many it wasn't enough.

 

If they do a comic crossover as well they should have Sari and the mutant Neo-Knights in it.

 

Yes but there was much less dedicated to the Hotslaught skeletons. They removed one thing and filled some gaps in the shoulders and feet. I don't think it's impossible just unlikely given how much more there is with the other potential molds. Cyclonus could work, I suppose. FOrgot that was coming out honestly

As much as I want (and expect) it'll be the Blackbird X-Jet, there's a tiny part of me that hopes they swerve us, and reveal these guys as well;




I mean, it probably won't happen, but I'd soooooooo buy em if it did! lol Also, there's a bunch of other cool possibilities. Mebbe a transforming Sentinel? Mebbe a transforming Nimrod? Transforming Danger?
