I mean, we're only three releases in, that's hardly enough to establish rules. Before Maverick none of the crossovers were new moulds, and before Gigawatt there was no "Voyager and under," just Voyager. Hot Spot also can't really be considered a current mould compared to Ectotron, certainly not as current as the Sideswipe mould is to Gigawatt, and again Maverick is all new. There's no two crossover toys so far that fit the same standard.

TF fans like to make up arbitrary rules and guidelines when it's really just whatever Hasbro feels like. If they feel like retooling a movie figure or going above Voyager, there doesn't need to be precedent.

 

It has to be the Blackbird considering 2021 is the 45th anniversary of it's first appearance.

With all the talk of retools there's one that seems to be missing. What about a retool of Titans Overlord/Sky Shadow? It's already a close match but with a retool integrating the legs to enlarge the jet mode and forward swept wings and instant X-Jet. Toss in a couple of titan masters in X-Men colors maybe Wolverine with "X" crest and Marvel Girl with Phoenix crest and I might actually break down and try to get one.

Ectotron and Gigawatt both being retools of mainline generations figures is two crossover toys fitting the same standard  

 

What if the X-Jet is a Cyclonus retool...but instead of ER, it's the CW version + Silverbolt's front fuselage piece and painted in its colors? This would be an easy way to make a "sorta" Blackbird without major re-tooling (especially since we've been told to keep our expectations low), and opens up the possibility of a "Cerebros" combiner. Each limb can be one of the original X-Men (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, etc). But then again, maybe that wouldn't be so bad, because the sucker in me would probably get that. Just thinking out loud...

 

But so far none of the Collaborative figures have been existing characters from the crossover franchise (Maverick is debatable since he's named after the main characters call sign, but that doesn't mean he is supposed to be the same character as Tom Cruise). I think it's safer to expect some sort of new character or an existing robot from X-Men to get turned into a transformer rather than expecting it's bot mode to be one of the X-Men
