Even a fan of this poor film series knows that TF6 just doesn't make sense. One way or another, the damage has been done and Hasbro and Paramount are boxed in and out at the same time. Change is coming. It's happened to much better franchises like Spider-Man and Batman, which at least contained some good films. Bumblebee has zero buzz here and elsehwere. It isn't going to change things, rather it is quite likely to cement them. Especially if we do our part and say no more.

Don't be deterred true believers, we can get a good film and a good TF film at the same time. We have yet to have either one.

Remember the writer's room? Hilarious. Throw shit at a fan and see what sticks - except they forget that even what sticks is still shit. Remember when Wheeljack was called Que because Michael Bay liked James Bond and he looked like Doc Brown because all scientists, even alien robot ones, look like Doc Brown? And of course he was a blue Mercedes luxury sedan? It's so stupid it almost can't even exist. And soon it won't.

Take back your franchise on the big screen.

Bleeding Cool lied through their teeth. Here's the ACTUAL quote from John Warden:

Again, thanks to TFU.INFO, we now have the exact quote from Hasbro Brand Manager John Warden. We wrote it down word-to-word; exactly as it was stated.

"Question: The recent announcement regarding the changes for the movies, changes for toyline plans, cancellation of the series?

Answer: The points that Brian made about the reboot of the film franchise after Bumblebee? For sure, our team is working closely with Paramount and Machinima regarding the next chapter and the product lines associated with that. No decision is made independently from film partners, so we are part of this conversation on what's next and when should we deliver the next thing. Our attention right now is to focus on Bumblebee [The Movie]. I think the film has come along great. We've seen a lot of footage, cuts, takes. Toyline looks fantastic. I think there is a lot of directions we could take, post that. There are toy concepts we are working on. Nothing stops us. You guys saw downstairs, right? We have Cyberverse cranking. That's coming out soon. We have Studio Series, we have Bumblebee film toyline, for Generations, a new trilogy announced. Any shifts, we have to deal with it. Either pause or just charge head-on. This is one where we are going to collectively pause, sow for what's the next best story is and then put a toyline around that. In no way that it distracts us."

There you have it folks, directly from Hasbro at Toy Fair 2018.

Am I the only one here who looked at how much the TLK movie seemed to hint at having the next one focus on starting in Cuba- and how hard Cuba got pounded by hurricanes last year combined with Trump's political machinations against the Cuban gov't and realized that whatever was planned for after TLK would need every part referencing Cuba re-written? Something tells me this has more to do with the looking at whether or not to just re-boot the series than the toy sales and and public opinion. After all, logistics are a bitch at the best of times... (Yes this thread finally made me sign up to comment.)

If this is true, this is sad. I was so happy on friday, hearing that it was finally over. Really made my day.

The actual quote from Warden (who is known to lie through his teeth) doesn't prove or disprove anything, except the fact that they are putting the next movie on ice for a while (or indefinitely).

Now y'all understand what comic book fans have already known: Bleeding Cool will flat out lie for clicks. They get caught constantly and never correct themselves or even apologize. Rich Johnston doesn't make honest mistakes, he flat out makes shit up, just to get you to click on their site.

As for the actual quotes, it is very clear that they want to see how Bee does before they move forward. A total refresh of the brand is clearly what they'd love to do and if Bee bombs this Christmas and/or if the toys don't sell well, they have no problem with just moving on from Bay's vision of the story. This universe has now lasted almost as long as the initial G1/G2 story, which is still the most famous story in the franchise history.

It is okay to move on now. We had a lot of good ideas, even if they weren't executed very well. We still have a few years to play with those designs in the toy line before we really need to move on there. That's plenty of time for MPM to get the TF1 cast out and we can get the obscure cast members out in the Studio Series line.

Fans should take comfort that they're still getting new product for the foreseeable future. I know many Beast and Animated fans that would have loved for their favorite characters to still be so actively produced for so lone after their media franchise ended.

Y'all still got 4 more movies than GI Joe fans did before that needed a reboot.

Go figure. They've been burned by their media partners doing their own thing with their wholly-owned copyrights over the past couple of years. They want the center seat for their own properties for awhile, instead of being treated like a licensor answering to the studio on something they actually own outright.

The statement leaves me still confused. So are they going to reboot, or not? Or is the current series just on hiatus?

I think it means they actually haven't decided shit yet, but they have no plans for the forseeable future.
Only stating so to their investors would be a bad idea, so they are trying to make them think they are going to go down a different path while trying to be as non committal as they can about it so nobody can throw their words in their faces when it turns out what they do next isn't to their liking.

Cue whatever you're preferred version of "Spin my head right round" is.

I'd post a video of it myself, but too many choices, and the best one had too many flashy lights and I didn't want to risk it for users that it might bother.

They could scout a new location easy enough if that were the case. It's not like every scene in every movie is always shot on location. This is more waiting on box offices, and giving time to play with some prototypes and engineer some stuff, as well as better plot out the next stories. Though I do bet that cuba would have featured heavily. If TF6 were going to happen that soon though, they were going to have to literally start filming right as TLK filming ended. There was no way they were going to meet that deadline. It was becoming increasingly obvious as time went on. With how the Chinese series got pulled too that was supposed to spin out of the movies originally, it's kind of obvious that they are waiting on Bumblebee's box office first and trying to find a way to reignite that magic of the earlier movies.

The next one is likely to be very Quintessa heavy though. Since the point of the next movie or movies would be to wrap up the Unicron arc. So if a new one is made, I'm willing to bet it'll have some variation of the word "5" in it to reference QUINTessa.

So things we do know for certainty in all likeliness. The movie will feature Quintessa, further expansion on Megatron regaining his army. Autobots working with humans. A heavy story emphasis on Bumblebee somehow to bring his character arc full circle or begin to. Unicron's impact on geo-politics. Likely a stronger emphasis on Izzie than the previous movie had, which means Sqweeks too. Wahlberg suggested he's leaving the franchise, so possibly some way to write him out, or at minimum a cameo to write him out with. Likely they'll keep Vivian if they can albeit likely to downgrade that character's screen time, and they'll likely include Cogman as he seemed to be one of the breakout faves of TLK. So they may expand on Cogman some about how and why he came to earth and what he's going to do now without Hopkins' character for him to protect. Likely now Vivian's ninja butler. And then they also have to figure how unicron's impact on geo-politics also impacts Cybertron's recovery as it's now a sister planet to earth and likely to start trade routes for the process of reconstruction or figuring out how to move it back. That part would have likely featured cuba, as now the cuban refugee cybertronians could go home or make choices about going home or if they consider this their new home, and how Megatron and his army building could ruin that for them or if Megatron would find a way to draft them etc. Plus with TRF no longer hunting Cybertronians with the geo-political landscape being altered, the need for a sanctuary country like that is gone. Probably going to integrate some of the unused concept art from TLK too. And Mecha Ghidorah, err, I mean Dragonstorm is likely to return probably too. Since they will need at least two+ Knights to fully flesh out Quintessa since she's known as "the great deceiver" to them.

So that's a lot of various story material to go over, to figure out, and how to frame it in a way that audiences would grasp it, be able to follow it, and would want to see it. So that means also figuring out a new 'hook' so to speak as the audience entry-way into this world(likely what they'll use Izzie for, especially if Charlie Watson plays well with audiences in the Bumblebee movie, so they'll want to echo the female lead, and many seemed to grow fond of her in TLK and wished she had more screen time and they'd need a new hook catalyst besides sqweeks to make that work) and something that makes them connect and relate to the characters and their plight.

And then the biggest question of all with all that material to deal with.
How to keep the budget manageable and not over-inflated. Since bare minimum, the movie would need to break even for what's likely a bare minimum 2 installment finale, 3 at most. Unless they find a way to wrap up all that material left to cover in one movie, but that's way too much material for one movie without breaking the budget.

Oh, and since Primal won the fan poll and is getting a generations leader figure, they'll probably work in that Primal concept art to hopefully draw in those fans. Then factoring in looking at cinema trends right now of what's worked the best, they'll try to generate some kind of draw that reminds people of Wonder Woman's movie and Black Panther combined. Which in Transformers lore, means something likely surrounding the matrix and one or two new movie fembots that draw from the lore somehow and are integrated well. Either ones we've already seen brought back somehow, or entirely new ones drawing on one of the fan fave media ones that played well with audiences to generate positive hype of their entry into the movie-verse.

That's what they have to figure out if they don't reboot.
If they do reboot, they have to figure out what the new hook is, and how to get audiences to come see something they've already watched since it'd be starting all over.

So ‘reset’ isn’t ‘reboot’ after all? Either way, I’m taking it as a positive that they want to take the time to do things.

I’d be all for a shake up. In my opinion, the series that play around the most with the traditional status quo are usually the best. Just look at Beast Wars or Animated.

This should be the takeaway from this thread. BC does often have accurate inside information from first hand sources. But they just as often (or maybe more often) have flat-out invention created to bring the unwary to the site.

So there is no reset/reboot yet, they're just putting TF6 on ice and waiting to see how Bumblebee does and then going to decide?

The most likely case. There's an empty movie slot in 2021 to fill, so regardless of whether reboot or not, that's the likely spot to see a new transformers movie release.
